I'll take Holmes.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not in the first sentence, but Paintsville lost by 18, 82-64.

 

I've spoken to a few people down here and all have said Holmes is much more athletic than Lexcath.

 

 

Paintsville was also without Bundy for the Catholic game.

Holmes (32-2) will meet Paintsville (30-3) in what will probably be the best second round game of the whole sweet 16.

 

Paintsville likes to get up and down and scores a lot of points where as Holmes presses the whole game and is very defensive minded.

Henderson v Slone

 

Slone put up 35 in the first round, but we all know about Henderson's defense. Anyone who has seen him this year or last year knows the type of shut down defender he is.

 

The two have two common opponents in Bardstown and Magoffin Co.

Paintsville beat Magoffin Co 73-54 and 94-72

Holmes beat Magoffin Co 75-19

Holmes wins by 15.

Holmes with the state tournament experience, Paintsville with the senior leadership - should be a great game - worried about lack of depth by P-Ville. Holmes pulls away at the end.

When I saw that score comparison, first thing I thought is Paintsville plays NO defense what so ever. If they don't play good defense against Holmes they'll be ran out of the gym.

 

I know you can't compare scores but Holmes beat Magoffin Co 75-19 and that was with Henderson and Co only playing the first and half of third quarters.

 

Holmes is going to score a lot of points against Paintsville.

Nobody thought we could beat them in '96 on Sat. morning after getting beat by Catholic by around 25 in the 5/3 that year.

#4 and #45 for Paintsville impressed me very much how they were able to handle the pressure and take control of the team. Last night was first night I have been able to see Landon Slone play and he impressed alot. Looking foward to the Henderson vs Slone matchup. Ill go with Holmes by 13.

I'll take Paintsville by 4 in somewhat of a surprise!!

Paintsville had MASSIVE problems with J'town's pressure late in the game - almost seemed like J'town had spotted them a big lead and waited until midway through the 4th before they kicked it in. I think they'll see 4 quarters from Holmes of what they saw for the last few minutes from J'town.

 

Big question - can Slone beat Henderson off the dribble? If he doesn't do that early on, game's over because he's not gonna get clean looks from the perimeter until he shows that he's got some other facets to his game. Paintsville as a team is dangerous if they get open looks because they shoot the ball well, but no way no how they shoot 68 percent tomorrow against Holmes.

 

As a Holmes guy, I would love to see Paintsville play the same pace that they did against J'town. If they do, I wouldn't be surprised to see Holmes with a double digit lead and Paintsville with 12 turnovers by the half.

 

Prediction? Holmes coasts to a Saturday morning matchup with LexCath.

I'm guessing that Paintsville scores just over half what they did in Game 1. Similar scenario to Elliott County when they went up against strong defensive teams from NKY.

Something to think about though.

 

A team that Paintsville beat 73-54 and 94-72 (Magoffin Co), Holmes beat 75-19. You can't gameplan for defense like that. And that was with their starters not playing ANY of the 2nd or 4th quarters and only 3 minutes of the 3rd.

 

Paintsville will have to play better defense if they want to beat Holmes. Outside of Lexcath, I don't think Paintsville has seen a team as big as Holmes and I know they haven't seen a team as athletic as Holmes.

 

Paintsville also struggled to rebound last night. Holmes will kill Paintsville on the offensive glass and be up 10 before Paintsville can blink if they don't hit the boards hard.
