Can someone post Paintsville's roster with their starters and key players highlighted? I only saw the 4th quarter of their game tonight so I'm trying to get an idea of what other match ups (height, position) we'll see outside of Slone v Henderson.

J.D. Vanhoose 6-2 sr. 12.4 ppg

Blake Bundy 6-0 sr. 7.3 ppg

Justin Murry 5-11 sr. 10.7 ppg

Have seen both teams play at least three or more games each, and I say Holmes by 10-12 pts. Paintsville has a very good starting five, but they lack a good bench, and Holmes can and does go 10-11 deep. If Paintsville tries to run with Holmes the final score could be worse, but the Paintsville kids are all seniors and play smart, so I don't think they will run with Holmes like they did last night with J-town. Holmes will need to shoot better as Paintsville won't have the turn overs that Bardstown did. This game could and will be close if (and I know some of the Paintsville fans will say no way) Paintsville slows the game down.

 

This Holmes team is on a mission, and I hope for them and for the Ninth, they earn it! Go Holmes!!!

I am sure Paintsville was tired in the 4th but I think J-Town decided to trap more in the 4th so Paintsville turned it over more. In the first 3 quaters, J-town just played full court man but didn't trap. I have never seen Holmes play, but if the Tigers shoot this well Friday night, its going to be another classic. Its hard to blow a team out that never misses. I voted for Paintsville because, well...I am from Paintsville and I am biased. Tigers by 5. 76-71. Slone with 22.

If Paintsville's PG plays well and commits few tournovers the Tigers will have a shot at the end to wind.

 

If he doesn't, the game will be over quickly.

One question, one comment.

Question: How many Grimms have gone through the halls of Paintesville? I graduated from Hanover w/ a Grimm who played on the state team. Every year since, I've noticed that there was at least one on the roster.

 

Comment: I find it hard to believe that Paintsville will hit 55% of their 3's again. As we've learned, "Live by the 3, die by the 3." Holmes can run with anyone, and their defensive pressure will eliminate many open "3" looks. This will come down to Paintsville's half court set and getting good looks inside of the arc. Holmes is very long, very athletic, and incredibly disciplined.

 

I don't know very much about Paintsville to go either way. I'll just say good luck Holmes.

Holmes can't run with Paintsville? Are you serious? Have you ever seen Holmes play?

 

Holmes is probably the most athletic team in the state tournament. If Paintsville tries to run with Holmes it will be over at halftime, as Holmes can go 10 deep and will have Paintsville tired. When J'town started pressing last night in the 4th it really took a toll on P'ville. Holmes will press the whole game and throw waves of players at them.

 

Also don't forget the Henderson factor. Slone will get his, but if he gets 20, it will be the toughest 20 he has ever gotten and he will be dog tired by the end of the game from having Henderson in his jock all night.

That sounds like match up problems. Paintsville will have to be able to rebound with Holmes or it could get ugly early. Here's the way I see the matchups going:

 

5'11 Braeon Avery v 5'11 Justin Murray

6'4 Jeremiah Johnson v 6' Blake Bundy

6'0 Arrez Henderson v 6'3 Landon Slone

6'4 Ricardo Johnson v 6'2 J.D Vanhoose

6'4 Terrence Clark v 6'2 Shane Grimm

 

I see Holmes length and athleticism giving Paintsville problems.

If Holmes can't keep up with Paintsville, then Paintsville must be one of the most athletic teams in the state, because you aren't going to find anyone as fast as Holmes.

Paintsville showed an ability to break full court pressure and finish tonight, however they struggled with rebounding.

 

If Paintsville struggles with rebounding, they might be in trouble tonight.
