I saw the second half of Paintsville game last night and watched 3 qtrs of the Holmes game. The only team that has a shot at beating Holmes is Holmes. I am sure LexCath will give them everything they want Sat but thats it. Sorry folks, no way does Paintsville beat Holmes. I am predicting Holmes wins NKY their 1st State Championship in 25 + yrs.

Something to think about though.

 

A team that Paintsville beat 73-54 and 94-72 (Magoffin Co), Holmes beat 75-19. You can't gameplan for defense like that. And that was with their starters not playing ANY of the 2nd or 4th quarters and only 3 minutes of the 3rd.

 

Paintsville will have to play better defense if they want to beat Holmes. Outside of Lexcath, I don't think Paintsville has seen a team as big as Holmes and I know they haven't seen a team as athletic as Holmes.

 

Paintsville also struggled to rebound last night. Holmes will kill Paintsville on the offensive glass and be up 10 before Paintsville can blink if they don't hit the boards hard.

 

J-Town had 22 second chance points, so Paintsville defense didn't kill them it was our lack of blocking out that gave J-town so many easy buckets. Like I have said before I haven't Holmes play but very few gave us a chance against J-Town but we still played great and got the W.

Holmes had made their living all year off of second chance points. If they struggled to rebound against J'town, they will struggle against Holmes. Holmes is bigger ( 3 6'4 starters, 2 6'5 kids off the bench), and much more athletic than J'town.

 

I'm not saying it's going to be a blow out, because Paintsville is a very good team who has played a tough schedule and has a great player in Slone, but I'm just saying outside of LExcath, Holmes will be the best team Paintsville has seen.

Paintsvliie did not take care of the ball in the second half against J-Town.

 

I expect Landon Slone will get a little man-to-man dose of Arrez Henderson. would like to see a competetive game, but I've been saying it all year, Holmes is a better TEAM than last year. They are a very dangerous, and will be a tough out for anyone in the Sweet 16.

 

I pick Holmes in this one.

And the Holmes kids don't? If anything they should want it more coming off a state semi final loss last year. This is the seniors third trip to Rupp in 4 years and their last go-round.

 

I think every team wants it really bad. Paintsville's only problem is they have only 6 or 7 kids to help get it down whereas Holmes has 10 or 11.

I see where he's coming from as far as destiny. The Coach is retiring after this season, and it does seem to be a trendy thing to say. But yes, you should be playing hard all the time, and no, this Holmes Team probably isn't going to feel real bad if they send Coach out with an L. I believe this will be a close game heading into the 4th qt. I see Holmes pulling away midway through the 4th, and winning by 10.

ER....don't think I don't like you from previous posts, I am on board with your assessment of Holmes for this year ! I agree that Holmes will beat Paintsville and has potential to go all the way in this tourney. I saw the end of Paint/Jtown and although impressed, don't see them staying with the Bulldogs. I saw Paintsville struggle with pressure and it wasn't the equivalent to what the Dogs play. Sloan is a real threat but his twenty won't be enough..........Dogs by 12 although it could stay interesting for awhile.

 

If they play unselfishly and continue smart decision-making like last night, they can compete with anyone. A LexCath match-up could be could be an "instant classic" .......and if they pull that off I predict a State Championship.

I saw the LexCath PVille game and even though they did not have Bundy, 18 was as close as it got. Catholic put their third team in for the final 5 or 6 minutes.

Paintsville is only 6 deep, IMO there is no way 6 guys can handle the pressure Homes will bring all game. I see Paintsville hanging in for a while because their 6 are very good, but fatigue and 2nd chance points will kill them in the second half.

 

BTW Sloan was very impressive last night.

Great story, but Holmes has too much depth. There were a few moments of fatigue for the Tigers on Wednesday, and J'town didn't even play good defense. They'll hit a few threes and stay close, but with 4:00 to go in the game Holmes will make their closing run.
