Article on Euton Transfer

Featured Replies

Well if you look at the Euton situation he obviously had to move somewhere. So with him being a great plyer I don't see whats wrong with wanting to play for a good program.
I don't have a problem with the Eutons moving and doing what they feel is best for their son's basketball future?

But it isn't like Scott County is the only good program in the Lexington area.

There are lots of coaches in this state that have shown they're capable of developing talent, some of which never get to work with the kind of talent that Hicks has had at Scott County.
When I was in high school, we just played for the school were we lived. :thumb:

They are going to live there.

Yeah, he is obviously presenting these kids with brand new Toyota Camry's.

"We gave one kid a tractor...."

That's true, and when Coach Hicks ever leaves they should apply for the job.

I know that.

If Jackson ends up at Scott County, I think the KHSAA will look into it. That will be 3 major transfers in less than a year with Gelawn, Dakota, and Chad.

What is the KHSAA rule on where you can play based on where you live. For example, if you live in County-A, can you play in County-B? I know the Eutons are moving to Scott County, but just wondering. I know a lot of kids in Fayette move around, but is that under the control of local school district?

Maybe a real estate agent in Scott County is a better job.:p

Definitely Scott County is one of the fastest (if not the fastest) growing Counties in the State. It is definitely due to Toyota and the secondary economy that has grown up around them. Cost of living is much lower than Fayette, but you have many of the same benefits. And you are close enough to Lexington, Cincinnati or Louisville if you want something more.

The fact is that 2 highly rated HS players have transferred into Scott County in less than one year. And a third may not be far behind. I am sure the KHSAA will be involved, because they will have to determine Euton's and possibly Jackson's eligibility.

Having said that, I personally don't see any issue with Euton. It looks totally legit. His dad lost his job, so gotta move somewhere. The fact that they wanted to get Dakota into a good basketball program was one of their decisions on where to move to. His dad said as much in the articles we have read.

Skews the balance of power in their district and the 11th region, but that is life I guess.

Sounds like an indirect recruiting pitch ... repeat it often enough, and eventually the right people start to believe it.

No one questions the idea that Hicks is a very good coach. But why has the "best coach in the state" won only two regional titles in the last eight years?

It happens everywhere, but it's ironic (or maybe not) that the example you keep citing is the school that had kids come in from your alma mater.

Gee, if it's OK for Scott County to get them, shouldn't it be OK for Hazard?

I said last year that Scott County had one of the deepest and most talented teams I had seen in this state ... before everything is said and done, that team will have at least three kids play Division I basketball. It's just as much talent as it is coaching.

First off talent doesn't come in every year and teams other than Scott Co. also end up with very good teams. I think Coach Hicks has been to like 7 Sweet 16s in 14 years. Thats a pretty good ratio. Now they are in the 11th, 2 of the past 3 years theyve gotten beat out in the top region in the state.

Secondly, I am just using the Hazard transfers as an example that I know about. I could also say that LexCath would not be near as good if not for getting Vee Sanford. UHA has a revolving door of players going in and out of the program. The Maynard kid playing for Elliot Co. went to Scott Co. I believe for a year or 2 of high school. It happens every where. And Im sure there are a ton of players I dont even know about.

As for the talent/coaching debate, every school in Lexington is loaded with talent, a lot of it is undeveloped.

Paducah Tilghman was loaded with talent, but lacked coaching. They go blew out. Go figure.

That's true, and when Coach Hicks ever leaves they should apply for the job.

Classic....I'm laughing on my couch as we speak ;)

Good talent is the same reason the KHSAA realigned SC into the 11th in the first place.....I wonder if the KHSAA rules them inelgible if they will then reverse the decision a couple of hours later.

Maybe Coach Hicks 700 or more wins make him a Great Coach! Plus Hicks did not ask for Euton. Euton wanted to play for Hicks. Jackson mother works for Toyota. She has been hurt for the last two years. If she moves the whole family he will play for Scott Co. Just like Guyn's family did last year. Plus you or I can not protest anything, not even other schools in the 11 Region. The only school that can is Rose Hill and that is not going to happen. So the KHSAA will not even look into it without a protest. Now What? Please stop being hater it not good!
