Dakotah Euton leaving Rose Hill

Featured Replies

I have seen several who as high school sophomores showed potential to become UK caliber players. Deron Feldhouse was not the most dominate high school sophomore anyone has ever seen, but he developed into one of the "Unforgettables" at UK.

I have seen this kid play several times and while you say there are few sophomores who show D1 potential you do see certain characteristics the this young man does not have in order to play SEC level D1 ball. That characteristic - speed (closely followed by general athleticisim). He may be able to shoot but will struggle getting up and down the court and working to get the ball while going against athletes that are just as big and faster than he is.

Bill Keightley—Mr. Wildcat—has been intimately involved with the UK basketball program since 1962. He has served as the Wildcats equipment manager during the tenures of coaches Adolph Rupp, Joe B. Hall, Eddie Sutton, Rick Pitino, Tubby Smith, and Billy Gillispie. He has three NCAA Championship rings and has seen every Wildcat come and go for over 45 seasons, including 43 NBA players, 20 Retired Jerseys, 19 All Americans, 12 SEC Players of the Year and 4 National Basketball Hall of Famers, Rupp’s Runts, the Twin Towers, the Unforgettables and an overall record of something like 1,104 - 345.

I’m not suggesting that Mr. Keightley is Rick Pitino, but he was an All State basketball player himself back in the 1940s, and has been around long and close enough to sort the turkeys from the eagles… and he absolutely loves Dakotah Euton. He has seen him play and workout, and believes he will be a huge asset for the Cats someday.

No offense, but due to the rules of anonymity for members of BGP, I don’t have a clue who any of you folks are who want to diminish a high school sophomore, and by default the wisdom of the 2008 SEC Coach of the Year who recruited him, but I trust the knowledge and experience of the Wildcats humble equipment manager and the work ethic of one of the finest young men I know more than any of your opinions. :thumb:

So as to not have the rumor mill churning, Dakotah Euton is leaving Rose Hill Christian School.

The rumor is not false. Not only is it true, I just got off of the phone with Dakotah's father. I wanted to make sure that it was okay with him that I post this. Dakotah is in fact leaving Rose Hill. His father's place of employment has officially closed. He is leaving not because of any ill will towards the school. This is not a basketball decision. It is an economic one. Although his circumstance is obviously different considering his child is 6'8" and a U.K. commitment. I doubt many, if any, of us will ever be in his shoes. I don't know where he's going, but I can't imagine his son's college future in basketball not having some bearing in the decision. And although they haven't gone anywhere yet, I'd like to say that I appreciate all that Mr. and Mrs. Euton have done for Rose Hill and the community. Not many will know how deeply their commitment and effort will be missed. I appreciate all Mr. Euton has done for my children personally and his whole family will be greatly missed, especially by my family. Not often will you find a kid the caliber of basketball player as Dakotah take the time to talk and shoot with kids in the 3rd grade. He is a role model for those kids in many ways far more important than basketball. No one will root harder for the Euton's than those folks here at Rose Hill,,,no matter where they end up.thumb[1.gif]

I posted this because it is first hand. It is not rumor. I'm sure some have already formed their opinions and that's fine. Opinions really don't matter that much, especially when shone up against truth.

I think his mom coaches girls B-ball @ Rose Hill.:D What about the Jackson kid?????

I can only imagine the uproar if Euton and/or Jackson ends up at Scott County ...

:thumb::thumb:

I've wondered about his commitment to Kentucky. Did UK formally offer him a scholorship for the 10-11' season or did Euton just make it known that he would be going to UK under the assumption that he would be a top recruit that could almost pick any school he wanted. Also regardless of how the commitment came about it's still just a verbal one that can be retracted by either side, is this correct.

...or did Euton just make it known that he would be going to UK under the assumption that he would be a top recruit that could almost pick any school he wanted.
If that's the case my sons are now officially UK commitments for the 2011-2012 season and the 2014-2015 season. Coach G. have your peeps call my peeps, we'll need at least six tickets behind your bench for the next home game. :thumb:

I'll let you all know if this works. We could be on to something here. :thumb:

I don't know any players who are UK caliber players as high school sophomores.

Apparently Tubby and staff didn't think SEC Player of the Year Chris Lofton was UK material as a high school senior.

Euton is a legitimate 6' 8" and about 230 pounds as a high school sophomore. He's not one of those kids who was shaving in 8th grade. I'm not convinced he's through growing vertically, and I know he's nowhere close to maturing muscularly. It is very likely he will top out around 6' 9" to 6' 10" and around 250 before he plays his first game as a freshman at UK. The crazy thing is, with that big of a body, he doesn't have to play with his back to the basket. He knocked down over 40% of his three-point attempts this season. He already handles the ball as good as any kid his age and size I've seen. When his muscles finally have a chance to catch up with his bones, his quickness and hops will improve. I haven't been around a kid with a better work ethic.

I like his chances of making all his scoffers eat their words. :thumb:

Well I personally don't know any sophomores that are UK caliber players either, but I definitely know who is not.

And the crazy thing is with that big of a body, why would you want to shoot threes? The last big man at UK to shoot threes was Bernard Cote, we all seen what good that style of play did throughout his career. From what I seen, Euton is slow and worries to much about shooting threes than being in the post, where he should've dominated the 16th Region Tournament.

By the way who is Deron Feldhouse? I know a Deron Feldhaus that played basketball at UK.

I've wondered about his commitment to Kentucky. Correct a verbal commitment by a player is not a binding contract. There may be 10 to 15 verbal commitments and if a school only has 2 or 3 scholarships to give out then it is the school who decides who gets them. That is why you get guys that are preferred walk-ons.

Looks like it's official:

At least the Euton part. I wonder where Jackson will end up?

EastSideJunkie you beat me to it.

What's sad, our own local paper doesn't even have anything about him leaving. But a paper 3 hours away does some research and gets the story....

At least the Euton part. I wonder where Jackson will end up?

I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up there with him or even Bryan Station. They had an unbelieveable year. Who knows.

I don't know if anyone else saw it, but Demling wrote a story about it and it confirms that he is going to Scott County.

Sorry, didn't see post 189.

IF Chad Jackson transfers I feel almost certain that he would also go to Scott. He and Euton are very close. I feel they will finish playing high school ball together and I really hope they also play college ball together.

Congrats to Scott County, they just got a good one.

Best wishes to the Eutons! My own children go to college in Lexington and if either of us lost our jobs, we would also move that direction. In fact, it is still a possibility. It is tough for any 16 year old to change schools, much less one that is a stand out like Dakota. Good luck Eutons!
