I've not seen or heard Rev Wright's supposed racism. Is Farakan a racist? In some people's eyes he is. But Obama looking up to a minister that led him to Christ is obviously not a problem with me. From everything I've read on Rev. Wright, he seems like a pretty active black minister who wants to focus on issues important to the black community. He's made some interesting points and while it might scare some white folks, I've not seen anything racist.

By that criteria does that mean that anyone who spoke up for Strom Thurmond (even at a birthday party i.e. Trent Lott) is likewise a racist?

I am not condemning Obama for the actions of others. But I am questioning him for not adamantly denounce Wright and his positions. I can't say if Obama is a racist or if Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, or Carter were racist. I do know that Obama has spent the better part of his adult life as a member of a church who more then likely has a racist as a pastor. That makes me question his judgement and character. And yes, character has to be a huge part of helping decide you will vote for. Character is what defines who we are.

I absolutely DO NOT think that Obama is a racist. I have no reason to believe that he is.

I don't have any reason to suspect he is. I do not know anything about his preacher. I will only say that if it were proved true that the preacher gives any kind of racist or hate filled sermons and Obama didn't distance himself from this man, I would have to suspect that he harbors the same beliefs. My suspicion right now is that the sermons are not near as bad sas some would have us believe.

woodsrider said endorse and support. I would never support a racist politically. I would talk to them and try to counsel them (if given the chance) but I wouldn't politically support them.

I, for one, do not find him to be a racist. I also don't condemn him for going to that Church, but it sure raises some question marks as to why Senator Obama allow a man like that to get so close to his family and his kids. Granted, I have only heard parts of two of Rev. Wright's sermons, but the things I heard were pretty bad.

Very much in the same ballpark. How many of us go to a church with a pastor that might say or do things we don't agree with. The pastor who baptized me doesn't believe whites and blacks should intermarry. He also believes like Hagee that we should attack Iran to start WWIII. Obama has repudiated Frakahn's endorsement and renounced his statements. It's a huge double standard here.

If the pastor of McCain's church made the kind of inflamitory statements that Obama's pastor has made there would be a huge outcry from the lefties for McCain to not only denounce the pastor but to leave that church.

 

I also seem to remember a Dem controlled congress wanitng to censure Bob Jones University for remarks that were attributed to members of that faculty. I haven't heard anyone from the left want to start hearings about this guy saying that 9/11 was fair retribution for the US bombiong of Hiroshima.

Well, let's look at this in a geographical sense....there is a really good chance that Jesus was a poor black man. In that case, which is the racist? The reverend who acknowledges that? Or the person who believes Jesus was a white man? From a societal view, I believe the circumstances of Jesus' upbringing and life are too vague to make a definitive determination, but I believe there's a better-than-good chance that He was poor, whether black or white. Of course, He could quite possibly have been Middle-Eastern. Does it really matter whether one person believes He was black or another that He was white? Jesus, at this point in history, is not a human being, except in how He is manifested in each of us.
