Obama - what is the truth about him?

Featured Replies

Just as the title says. What is the truth about him?

I have questions and if any can answer or point in the direction of an answer it will be appreciated.

1 - how much does he look up to his step brother or does he?

Barack Hussein Obama stands behind Kezia (stepmother) in a Kenyan family shot. (Including brother Abongo "Roy" Obama who is a Luo activist and a militant Muslim who argues that the black man must "liberate himself from the poisoning influences of European culture.") "Abongo's new lifestyle has left him lean and clear-eyed, and at the wedding, he looked so dignified in his black African gown with white trim and matching cap that so me of our guests mistook him for my father," Obama wrote in Dreams From My Father. “The person who made me proudest of all,” Obama wrote, “was Roy. Actually, now we call him Abongo, his Luo name, for two years ago he decided to reassert his African heritage. He converted to Islam, and has sworn off pork and tobacco and alcohol.”

Is his church racist?

From their website -

Mission Statement:

“We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

“Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:

1. Commitment to God

2. Commitment to the Black Community

3. Commitment to the Black Family

4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education

5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence

6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic

7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect

8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness"

9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community

10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions

11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System

12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.”

It sounds from the news reports that his pastor is getting him looked at in a different light for sure.

Honestly look at their website and read their stuff. I do not see how it is false.

Does everything that your church publishes reflect everything that you believe, think or feel about issues? Or are there some things you might have some differences about but find that your church is still your church?

If something happened with the leadership of your church and/or they did or said something that you disagreed with, will your ties or connection to that body still paint you as something you just might not be?

Just asking.

Here we go again. I'm starting to lean toward Obama for the simple reason that so many people are so intent on believing any and every piece of made up crap out there about him.

Yet another attempt to slay his character!

Dang it! If this is the best that anyone can come up with, after all this time, I think he might just be the right man for the job!

I just want to stand up and cheer on this one, Rockmom! :dancingpa

Seriously. I don't see anything wrong with Obama's stepbrother that he probably never sees wanting Kenyans to hold on to their culture. This is a country that has had to deal with colonialism, AIDS, and all sorts of things, why not try to unite people as Kenyans?

Also look at the guy McCain is being endorsed by. Hagee hates Catholics and wants the USA to attack Iran to start WWIII and the second coming of Christ. He's also endorsed by Rod Parsley who pretty much advocates theocracy in America.

All this is is that there is a black guy running for president and it scares the crap right out of some people. Oh No! He goes to a "BLACK" church that wants to help the "BLACK" community, and Africa which is full of BLACK people. Run! Hide!

Someone forgot to tell this woman that you need to be black to get into his church too.

BTW: Second dude from the top right is wearing a Kentucky T-Shirt.

They have women ministers? Now that's scary! ;)

I am not sure how I feel about Obama. I personally feel that the parties are not putting any standout candidates out there to be elected. Can some expand on how America can elect someone president that won't participate in pledging the flag? I am open to any thoughts that may share insight on this.

What you heard is a bald faced lie.

As of right now I know not who I am voting for.

I want to know the truth about something, I am not trying to slander or hurt him in anyway.

I want some fact and there are some very intelligent politically minded people on here so the reason I asked here.

McCain has good and bad qualities.

Hillary has good and bad qualities.

Obama has good and bad qualities.

I also want to add the church has changed their mission statement since they got all this publicity.....

If I can find it I will post it

BTW the guy in the Kentucky shirt looks like Dikembe Mutumbo.

It is unbelievable how many people believe these things (he's Muslim, won't pledge allegiance, etc.) about Obama....

But I guess everyone believes what they want to hear.
