Artistic license aside, I know of no Caucasian minister who claims that Jesus was a Caucasian. The churches that I have attended in eastern Kentucky never gave me the impression that Jesus was of Eurpean heritage.

 

I just finished watching video clips of Rev. Dr. Wright and then watched Obama being interviewed on Fox News and I believe that Obama's campaign is in deep trouble over his association with Wright. I found Obama's explanations very underwhelming and unconvincing. His careful word selection in answering Major Garrett's questions struck me as very Clintonian (Bill Clintonian - not Hillary).

 

The fact that Obama appeared on FNC to respond to the revelations about his pastor shows some desperation, IMO. He sees his chances of winning the votes of white independents and white moderate Republicans slipping away. Without independents and moderates, Obama will be well on his way to a McGovernesque defeat.

 

The story about Trinity United Church of Christ and its racist pastor has been available for the taking ever since Obama tossed his hat into the ring. Why is the story suddenly being carried by the liberal news media?

You said a White Minister would never make such a proclamation. He/She doesn't have to. It's implied. Now if a debate were to materialize or someone locally or in the congregation question the skin color of Jesus then I will guarantee you that you will see many of the leadership "fight" for the right Jesus to be exalted. This is my first post about Obama, I don't really like talking about it because I don't know as much about the situation as most, but here's something that caught my eye last night. First off Obama is playing this off like he didn't know his pastor felt this way, but you can't convince me that after 20 years of sitting through this man's sermons Obama didn't have a clue of his feelings, and stances towards these topics. Also, Obama was being interviewed by Anderson Cooper, I caught the tale end of the interview and Cooper asked Obama if he would sing "God Bless America" and of course Obama declined.

I would decline to sing "God Bless America"... I can't sing.

 

Further, for those of you that hate the "liberal-biased" media, two things....1) why would he sing, as if he were a puppet on stage, 2) what do you say about media bias now?

You said that Rev. Wright claiming Jesus to be a poor black man is no different than European artists giving Jesus European features. It is different. Jeremiah Wright has made repeated racist comments and he has been the Obamas' pastor for 17 years. Had John McCain collected Caucasian Jesus paintings by European artists over a 17 year period, then maybe your analogy would fit.

 

Now, Obama has gone on record as saying that had he been present when Rev. Wright made his racist remarks that he would have left the church. Few people who see Wright demonize white Americans, blame our goverment for the 9/11 attacks, and compare our nation to Al Qaeda are going to believe that Obama has not heard similar statements from the pulpit in his 17 years as a member of the Trinity congregation.

 

The issue was judgment. Now, the issue is credibility and Obama is in danger of losing his.

I must not be as adept at recognizing Jews on sight as you seem to believe most people are. When I look at a painting or other representation of Jesus, I see a man. When I use my brain, I assume that Jesus was the same ethnicity as most of the thousands of people who were entombed in Israel within a couple hundred years of Jesus' time.

As to the notion that Jesus looked like thousands "entombed", how do you find skin color and eye color on someone who has been "entombed?" So does that really give you a look at what Jesus' appearance may have been? Would climate closer to the equator produce people with a darker tan or even pigment than say those farther above the equator? What about arid climates?

Obama used extremely bad judgment by choosing a church led by a race baiting minister. Our discussion (you and me) was about the pigment of Jesus' skin. I merely pointed out that many do make it an issue for white's that Jesus has to be more European looking than darker skinned.

 

My point is that he did nothing more than other Black pastors have done that I have heard for 40 or more years on occasion. If challenged it's the same thing many white pastors would argue if it became an issue for debate in their pulpits. My point has been that the white church advocates their impression of Jesus' skin color by the artwork they employ and have for the longest of time.

If one of the points that is being discussed to prove that Rev. Wright is a racist is that he believe that Jesus was black, then yes, this thread has something to do with His ethnicity.
