I'm not putting down Elliott County at all with this post, they have a good team, and have had a great season. They extremely hard, but it comes down to Mason just having more talent. It will show in the end just it the last team these two teams faced off.

 

Mason Co- 88 Elliott Co- 64

There was a quote by one of the Mason Co players when talking about the 10th region championship game. I believe the quote was something to the effect of wanting to inflict the hurt they felt after losing to Clark Co in the 10th final last year.

 

The Mason Co kids haven't worked any harder than anyone else left standing, but I don't see any way these seniors or the coaching staff are going to over look Elliott.

Mason Co will not lose this game period.

 

Elliott Co has no one to stop Miller. Therefore its a done deal.

Elliott will come into this game prepared to take and keep the lead just like they did with Rose Hill last night. Besides . . . the last time these two teams met, a large number of their fans/cheerleading section were not able to attend . . . we'll ALL be there this time to help them prove to the rest of the state that they are well deserving of all the attention they've received.

 

Elliott by enough to advance to the next round!!!

I'll be rooting for Elliott. But unless a couple of you pop out of the stands and get down on the floor to help out on Darius, I think you face the toughest task in the tournament. Good luck.

Elliott Co. certainly got a lot of attention from CCH. More than they could handle in fact. I then saw CCH vs Mason Co. and Mason turned up the pressure with their tall guards and when CCh tried to throw over them the results were disasterous.

If Elliott wins, it will rank among the all-tme upsets.

How many upsets and even huge upsets have there been in the history of basketball over the last 80 years. More than a few. Nothing is a done deal except death and taxes. It may be a done deal but it will be sometime after 8:00PM on Thursday night. There is an old saying, "Don't count your chickens until they are hatched."

The difference maker is "Miller" with him it would be one of the all time upsets if Elliott would pull it off. Without him Elliott wins, they have just as much if not more weapons than Mason! I know I have watched both groups for a number of years. That said Mason will have Miller so as I said he is the differnce maker.

I have always cheered for Elliott County and will Continue here, Elliott County by 1.

Elliott's half court help swarming defense was as good as its been all year in the Rose Hill and East Carter games. East Carter had won 23 games and Elliott held them to 12 first half points and 32 for the game. The scores in Rupp and the State Tournament tend to be lower. With those two factors and the fact that the Royals won't shoot 62% against a much improved defense I see this as Elliott's opportunity for keeping the game within striking distance. Plus Elliott must knock down 10-12 treys and shoot in the mid 40s from the field. Sounds like a lot of factors, but Elliott is capable of meeting them.

 

And I agree. Miller is the difference maker. Maybe we could give him an Elliott jersey and talk him into switching sides for one game (not likely but a nice dream). The way our guys pass and get up and down they could probably get him 45 points. But we probably don't have one to fit him so can that thought.

Definitely a trap game for Mason. Elliott has the incentive to get even for the earlier embarrassment, Mason has the high expectations from their fans. Elliott should feel comfortable at Rupp. Fouls will play a big part. Closely called game favors Mason. Mason will have a big edge in the crowd as they always do, even if all of Elliott County shows up as it likely will. I see Elliott winning but admit my opinion is colored by my wish to see LexCath win it all.

KNIGHTSDAD--You are right. Closely called game and foul trouble will spell big time trouble for the Lions. They only play about 7 players and only dress 10. Ten tried out and all 10 made the team (just kidding, but they don't have any depth which spells doom in a closely called game). Not worried about getting tired because they are in excellent physical condition, but you can't play if your sitting.

Mason Co. 81-72.

I wouldn't get over confident if I were a Mason County fan, Elliott could beat Mason. It would be the ultimate upset and I don't think they will, because nobody can stop Miller but if Miller was in foul trouble or had a terrible night the Lions have enough weapons to win this game. The key is Elliott has to play better defense than they did in the first game, they let Middleton stand and shoot wide open 3's the hole game and he made them pay. They can't stop Miller so if they can shut everyone else down they do have a chance.

Can Elliott County win its first game against a top 20 team this millennium? Elliott County has not won a top 30 game this season. Mason is not Rose Hill and Rose Hill's only top 30 win was against Elliott County.
