First off, the person I'm arguing with said Ferguson was the best player on the floor, which of course will include Miller. That's ludicrous.

 

I stated before that Ferguson would be Mason's fourth or fifth option. I still fully believe that. I'd choose Miller first, Setty second, and Middleton third.

 

Let's compare shooting stats of Mason's "other two" players with Ferguson.

 

Setty

188-407 FG (46.2%)

507 pt (14.9 ppg)

 

Middleton

184-377 FG (48.8%)

60-165 3pt (36.4%)

512 pt (15.1 ppg)

 

Ferguson

253-550 FG (46.0%)

723 pt (24.9 ppg)

 

If Setty and/or Middleton were the focal point of the Mason County offense like Ferguson is for Elliott, and therefore took as many shots a game as Ferguson did, their stats would be even more close to equal.

Ferguson probably could edge out Ethan King for fourth, there's no way to know how much that Mason would have to rely on him to score if it weren't for the other three. They've had to do that with Middleton and/or Setty in the past if Miller was off on a given night or in foul trouble.

 

I would pick a 6-7 Setty AND a 6-3 1/2 Middleton over Ferguson every day of the week and twice on Sundays (especially if the region final is that day ). Just my opinion, no loyalty involved.

 

One could argue that if Ferg were not the focal point that he may be a little better. I'll further argue that Setty and Middleton are better now because they have less pressure on them because of Miller. Not all players are better when they are the focal point of the defense. Miller and Ferguson are and we know that, we have no idea if Setty and Middleton can live up to that pressure. Maybe, maybe not, but to say Ferguson would be a 4th or 5th option on this team is pointless. He has done it and those below Miller have never had to be the focal point of the opposing team's defense. Both teams have very nice players, and I'll say this, Ethan Faulkner is the best point guard on EITHER team. No disrespect to Mason, but Ethan is a true point guard. Good Luck to both teams. Of course I'm pulling for Elliott.

I do not know why they are even playing this game!Even though Mason is the favorite and will win, I think this game will go down to the last 3-4 minutes and come down to free throws in the end. Mason wins 72-67. A upset would shock all of KY!

If Elliots threes are falling the game may be close other than that Mason by 15.
