There only those two choices and the third choice of the middle class. Bottom line is that if you are serious about avoiding budget deficits over the long haul and you are going to increase, not cut spending, you have to get the money somewhere. Economic growth can generate more revenue, but I think its pretty much accepted to be conventional wisdom of most economists that raising taxes does not result in economic growth. So unless the Democrats elect to cut taxes, any hope of economic growth creating more revenue is a pipe dream.

 

If I was a poor person, I would be embarrassed to know that the only way I could live and provide for my family was receiving hand outs from the govt that were forcibly taken from the wealthy and even more so from the middle class.Totally embarrassed and if I could somehow overcome that embarrassment, my father would kick my fanny and lecture me about that's not how he raised me as he was doing it.

Going through college doesn't necessarily make anyone smarter, but it does teach you how to think on your own, work hard among other things. Most people that graduate college are either smart, or work their butts off to get through.

There are too many reasons why I wouldn't vote for Obama, however, almost all of them have been mentioned here. While he does give a better speech than GWB, that doesn't do it for me, afterall, all of the candidates speek better than Bush. I am registered Rep. but am far more Dem., however, that isn't going to keep me from voting for Huckabee in the election even though he is done. I can not believe the candidates we have to choose from. I am a proud American now, however, if Obama is elected it will take a hit on my pride.

Why would Obama getting elected take a hit on your pride? I'm proud of the country I served and also happen to live in, regardless of who our commander-in-chief ends up being.

Go to his web site and read his belief and make up your own mind. That is the best way to do it. I have read all the stuff I can on all the candidates. I personally have points that I agree with them all on. I don't 100% agree with any of them. I wish there was someone out there that was like that. But putting another party in would just split the country in thirds instead of half.

You may be right about the thirds, but I don't think so. I believe that there is a large part of this country that is not satisfied with the fact that in most years, the nominees for President are dictated by the far wings of both parties. As a result, if you are moderate liberal in your beliefs, you almost have to support the far left Democratic candidate even though you disagree with a lot of that person's positons because the Republican running is almost always (though definitely not this year) some far right wing candidate. If a third party was formed that was not controlled by the two extremes, I think their candidate would appeal to a much large segment of Americans than just one third. Actually McCain will win the presidency because of the fact that on some issues he appeals to moderates and independents of both parties, yet he'll get the votes of a lot of far right Republicans. Regardless of which of the two Democratic candidates gets the nominations, I really think the Democratic candidate will only appeal to the far left part of the Democratic Party. Americans have really not been exposed fully to the positions of the Democratic candidates because they are both very liberal. Its not like they are going to attack each other for being too liberal, because they both are too liberal. Once the head to head matchup begins between McCain and the Democratic nominee, the differences in choice is going to be very clear and I think a whole lot of more moderate Democrats and independents are going to vote for McCain. We'll see in the Fall I guess.

I agree with that. I have thought for the most part this country is begging for a third party, but then I think what if it splits us into thirds. I don't know what the break up of the extreme of both parties are but I would agree with you there are more leaning towards the moderate side of there party than on the extreme wings. I have not seen enough on McCain to make a determination yet on him. I tend to agree with you that I think he should be able to pull the vote from the people that he needs more than Barack or Hillary. They are going to have the major liberal states, and McCain all the red states in the last few years. Basicaly it is going to come down to Ohio, Florida, Penn., Michigan. Maybe a couple of others but those four due to the large number of elctoral votes. This IMO.

Well, I am not really joking. It is astounding how little college kids know. Other than BGP commentary, I get a lot of politics from major news stations. I learn economics from professors, and I know very little about tax law, just the economic trends that it causes. I know very little about the military.

 

And I know that I am a whole lot more in tune with America's political landscape then 95%+ of the people that I know. And I recognize my own ineptitude.

I'm good at writing papers, and I know enough about the Criminal Justice system we have in place here in the United States to get A's in my Criminal Justice classes. That's about all college has taught me. I've learned a few other things here and there...
