Why Barack Obama?

Featured Replies

Ok, first off he is who I am leaning toward voting for, but I can be persuaded at this time? I have not been following the race at this point, and I am ready to jump in...

I would like to know why BGP users are voting for him?

And why BGP users would not vote for him?

Is it true he won't salute during the pledge?

I don't agree with any of his policies. In particular I despise his health care policy. He is very bad on gun control. I don't support his policy on Iraq. I could go on and on, but like I said I don't support his policies. :D

He salutes during the pledge, he was sworn in with the bible, and he is not a Muslim. Barack Obama is a Christian no matter what you read on the internet. I wouldn't let those rumours affect my decision on whether or not I would vote for him.

I just think that Obama is too inexperienced at this point to actually lead this country. He has never really led anything. I think his weakness in foreign relations would be an immediate problem for the US. I too could go on and on as I agree with FKW above.

Do you always put your hand over your heart during the national anthem? I know I don't always, sometimes I have my hands behind my back. If I am wearing a hat it comes off, always...

I don't always either. People just want to make a big deal about NOTHING.

He makes me feel good to be an American.

If I am running to be the leader of our country, I would be sure to.

I think Sen. Obama is a very bright, charismatic young man. I honestly hope that skeletons don't come out of his closet during the general campaign. I don't think he is quite the right person at the right time to be leading this country however. His youth and inexperience concern me. Yes he can give a great speech and incite passion and enthusiasm. And sometimes that can be a great quality in a leader. Sometimes however it can create problems. Particularly when decisions and actions require deliberate, thoughtful consideration.

At this juncture of our country, I'd rather have an experienced, yes old, hand on the rudder; someone who has been on the ship as it has navigated the shoreline in the past. Sen. Obama will probably remain way too liberal for me, but I could see a time, perhaps 8 years from now, when I could feel a lot more comfortable with him navigating the ship, particularly if he spent the next 8 years getting much, much more seasoned in foreign affairs, military and intelligence matters (the most important aspects of being President and the paramount issues which should determine every person's vote for President in my opinion - and while you'll hear many attacks on Sen. McCain in the upcoming months, one thing you will not hear, not once, not ever, is that Sen. McCain is inexperienced on those issues or that Sen.Obama has more experience than him on those issues.) Sure, there are other important issues: the economy, social issues, etc which cannot be ignored. But, I'll count on Congress to take the lead on domestic issues. As for the President, I need someone who has the experience to handle foreign affairs, military and intelligence matters.

I hope that most Americans don't vote for Sen. Obama as an emotional knee jerk reaction to their dissatisfaction with Bush, but that is what I'm afraid is going on. So much for reasoned, incremental steps in a correctional direction; if Sen. Obama gets elected, we'll watch the pendelum swing wildly from one extreme to the other extreme as it cuts through the moderate center at an hundred miles per hour. Not a smart way to run a household, a school, a business or yes a country, going from one extreme to the other. And the world will wonder even more about those crazy Americans that 4 years ago reelected a President with one set of beliefs and 4 years later elected a President with a set of beliefs diametrically opposed to his predecessor.

:creepy:

I don't need him or anyone else to feel good about being an American.

:thumb: Obama is a socialist hiding behind a smiley face. His support among college educated kids is scary.

I was having this same discussion the other day with my parents and I agree with you 100%, and it is my biggest hesitation in voting for Obama.

Boy are you right. It is really scary when our brightest and best educated young people back someone. Bright and educated people are not to be trusted.

Bright educated people are to be trusted. People who believe that simply being black and being elected a US Senator are accomplishments that qualify a candidate for the presidency is scary. Have you ever seen anybody rattle off a list of Obama accomplishments when asked? No? Why not? Can you list five major legislative accomplishments (not five promises) for which Obama can claim credit? If you can, were you forced to use Google's help to compile your list?

Like I said, it is scary when so many people believe that a man who has accomplished so little is ready for the presidency. I despise John McCain, but I can easily rattle off a fairly long list of his accomplishments in the US Senate without resorting to his website or a search engine.
