I have no problem with people who support Obama with a full understanding of his positions, but I cringe when I hear students rattle off election triumphs and the color of Obama's skin when asked to cite his accomplishments.

 

Most college students who "support" Obama have no idea that he would raise taxes. They know that he will get out of Iraq and that he doesn't look the same and is younger then other politicians, who college students have been told have "failed" America.

Very true. . . . and at times (not always) a college education simply means being indoctrinated with the liberal and/or conservative political philosophies of professors they admire without truly understanding the scope of the political consequences of these particular beliefs.

However, it has been my experience that post secondary academia is largely liberal (there are a few conservative exceptions) and many students fall prey to these socialistic ideas. If a student embraces these philosophies because they have personally searched them out, then fine, but many times they take the word of an admired professor over coming to the conclusion themselves.

I want to know where they are going to get the money to pay for all these wonderful things they are going to do for us. It sounds good, but what are they and who are they going to bankrupt to do it? (our country?)

I would have to argue that majority of people between ages 30 - 50 that have a high school or less education that plan on voting are not that much more informed than these college kids. IMO

Well, I could use a boost in morale every once in a while. He provides that. A lot of our problems can be fixed by people just being happier, trusting government more and just generally feeling good. It may seem silly, but if people are happier, the wallets open up a little more and our economy is back in no time. You can call me a fool or naive, but I really believe that to be true.

The problems of this nation can't be fixed by being happier.

What you've told me is that he makes you happy (I hope you aren't one of those that are fainting when he gives a speech), you haven't told me why he makes you feel good to be an American. What has he done to make you feel this way? Heck, what has he done period?

Our country can not go bankrupt, if it could have, George W. Bush would have already had us in that position. :lol:

 

Our country CAN accrue large amounts of debt...which it has under the Bush Administration. Record amounts of debt, I believe.

I can't name five legislative accomplishments of Obama - period - unless you count casting the votes that earned him the title of being the most liberal US Senator in 2006. (For those who are unaware of the fact, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is a proud socialist and he was ranked as less liberal than Obama.)

 

So you call him a socialist, but won't hold your allegations to the same standards you require his supporters to?

 

If you want more concrete evidence of Obama's socialist sympathies, look no further than Obama's sponsorship of the Global Poverty Act of 2007. If enacted, this law would cost American taxpayers $845 billion to help meet the UN goal of collecting 0.7% of the GDP of developed countries to fight global poverty. You may think putting more American tax revenues in the hands of the crooks running the UN is a charitable act, but I view it as a giant leap toward global socialism.

 

So how is this different than George Bush's signature on the 2002 Monterrey Consensus? I believe the language is nearly verbatim, calling for developed countries to up their support for developing countires to .7% of GDP? Is this concrete evidence that George Bush is a socialist?

 

What is more, I don't consider foreign aid to be a "giant leap toward global socialism." Sound fiscal policy? Not for us right now. "Global socialism?" No.
