I've been tossing around crazy scenarios all season long just for kicks giving different teams a glimmer of hope. I've given props to Dixie, Beechwood, St. Henry, Conner etc... I'm well aware of who the powerhouses are. Out of the top 4, 2 are now GONE, but the Cru still stands. It will be a tall order for them the get past CCH, but stranger things have happened. Like... Villa taking St. Henry to overtime. Just as most, I see a Holmes/CovCath final, but ultimately that's why they play the game because we really don't know. Stranger things have happened... Personally, at this point in the game, I wouldn't want to follow any other teams to Rupp than the Blue Colonels or the Bulldogs. No other teams left have better chances than them in the Sweet 16. Still, I'll take whatever happens and root for whoever comes out of the 9th no matter what. :thumb:

 

My question then is this? Why all the love and affection shown toward Villa, a team that clearly benefitted from the fact that their District is a blind draw district (no offense intended Ludlow guys, back off), yet Bellevue has been absolutely villified for doing EXACTLY the same thing? All this while the following are true:

If the 34th district seeded games, it would end up being a draw anyway because Villa, Ludlow, and Lloyd each split games when they played each other while Dixie did not lose in district. Bellevue wasn't much of a match for the Dawgs but the same could be same for most every other team in the 9th Region this year. Villa came an angstrom from upsetting St. Henry. Thus far, no team in the 9th Region tourney has played with more grit, heart and hustle than Villa. Every time the ball hit the court in their game against the Cru at least one and usually two Black jerseys came diving into the fray. A peek into the future. Cov. Cath. has so many talented kids scrapping for a few available spots on their roster, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Villa pick up a transfer or two in the years to come based upon this year's effort. Congratulations to Bellevue, Villa, Milan, Valpo, the N.Y. Giants, David and all other underdogs who just couldn't get it through their heads that they weren't supposed to be there.

Im happy with that too.. I was not trying to make Bellevue look bad in any way but I was just trying to state a fact about it not mattering that the 34th District did not seed this year. That was all I was trying to say I respect Bellevue for their fine season as well as Villa.

Not trying to hijack the thread or anything like that. Just seems like a good place to ask this question. First congrats to the Villa Lightning. I truly enjoyed their kids and their coaches when we played them this year. Great guys and proud of them for making it to the regional.

Bellevue and Villa Split their conference games this year.

 

Villa was picked pre-season to be runner-up in the conference and ended up third.

 

Bellevue was picked no higher than fifth pre-season and finished second.

 

The Tigers expected to struggle to win 10 games yet won 15.

 

Holmes blew out over 2/3 rds of the Regional field and would and will do the same again given the chance. they ARE among the elite 4 or 5 teams in this state. Yet, because of a BLIND DRAW Bellevue gets them in the Regional. again, not anyone's fault, the luck of the draw.

 

Remember it takes a MAJORITY of the members of each district to decide on Seeding. The MAJORITY (that's three schools) choose not to seed in the 36th but it seems as if the whole issue is being laid at the feet of the Bellevue program. Just wondering why?

 

Again, props to the Blue Lightning, way to go gentlemen!! I'd just like someone, anyone, to give credit to the Tigers for doing what they had to do to get where they are. THEY DIDN'T VOTE TO HAVE THE BLIND DRAW ALL BY THEMSLVES FOLKS. These are kids and I think some folks on here have forgotten that.

 

As has been posted, the 34th would have been a blind draw anyway this season, for the reason given, but if Bellevue had voted to seed, then Bellevue woudn't have been in the tourney. Did Bellevue follow the rules? Sure they did! Did they do what was best for Bellevue? Sure they did, but most basketball fans understand that getting in by a good draw, is like attending the prom with your sister. Yes you were there, and yes you had a date, but most young men would rather die first, than to attend the prom that way.
