February 24, 200818 yr Bad comparison, Crawford, Bradley and Patterson are UK only options on an average team. Lofton is one of many options on the #1 team in the nation. Also, Bradley and Crawford teammates that they have to have these two to win. Lofton teammates does not believe this and many are much more interested in getting their own shots. As one of many UT options, Lofton's FG% should be at an all time high. Instead, both Bradley and Crawford are outshooting and outrebounding Lofton this season. Obviously, teams have been able to focus defenses more on Crawford and Bradley this season because, as you said, UK has only three serious offensive threats this season - and yet their shooting numbers are better than Lofton's.
February 24, 200818 yr But who's team is better?Obviously, I would trade UT's team talent for UK's but that is not what this thread is about.
February 24, 200818 yr How an NBA GM thought JJ was good enough to be a lottery pick is beyond me. Chris is a very good college player but I don't think he can cut it at the NBA level. I hope I am wrong.
February 24, 200818 yr Kerr played the point. This is the problem with Lofton. If he learns to play the point, he has a spot in the league. I agree very much with this statement. Going to be hard for him to play the 2 in league. But, he will work hard and do all he can to make it work for him. And if it doesn't there are a lot of people having good pro careers over seas. Also, many college coaches thought he couldn't play at this high of a level in college, but we all see how he has faired. Career wise it has been a good one. But, the league is a different story. Good luck Chris.

February 24, 200818 yr Lofton is not having the type of senior year he would have liked to but Tennessee is a much better team this year they don't rely on him as much and therefore I feel like he is forcing the action a bit to much. When he was the ONLY option on the team he was forcing the action and it worked out well for him. With that being said I believe he will be a first round draft choice and with his shooting range could have a very successful career. He's not even expected to get drafted... how will he get into the first round?
February 24, 200818 yr Chris could have helped his stock out a lot last night by proving he can play with athletes. But I think we all saw how that went... I really do not buy that one bit. I mean you all take one game, and say he can't do much against teams with athletes? I mean he tore up Memphis last year, he had great games against the National Champion Gators the last two years, did good against OSU last year, good against Texas with Durant and Augustine. Did good against UK every time pretty much, and he did great against the the National Champion UNC team his freshman year. He has done great against great athletes, more than he has done bad in his career.
February 24, 200818 yr In watching last nights game, Lofton looked two steps behind in almost all facits of the game. There is no doubt that he can shoot, but someone generally has to produce his shots for him. To me his glaring trouble will come on the defensive end. A slow 6'1 two guard who doesn't jump well will get eaten up on the defensive end. Lofton is a great college player. He is a lot like a Pelphrey, or Farmer in that he was beneficial to the UT program in getting in started in the wide open years. He may not even be able to start for them next year if he had another year, just like Pelphrey wouldn't have sniffed much playing time on the 96 UK team.
February 25, 200818 yr I don't think he's as good as Jeff Shepherd was and we all saw what kind of pro career he had.
February 25, 200818 yr Not being drafted might be his best option, as then he would be able to choose from a few teams to go to rookie league/camp as a free agent. Only first round picks are guaranteed money anyway.
February 25, 200818 yr I would not trade Crawford or Bradley for Lofton right now. Both are having better senior seasons. And whose team is ranked Number 1 in the country? Lofton may never make the NBA but he has got alot out of basketball to this point, I would have loved to have had a college experience like his!
February 25, 200818 yr And whose team is ranked Number 1 in the country? Lofton may never make the NBA but he has got alot out of basketball to this point, I would have loved to have had a college experience like his! What does who is ranked number one have to do with this thread? The whole point of the thread is to discuss Lofton's NBA viability and AcesFull made a valid point regarding that.
February 25, 200818 yr I had the chance to meet and talk to a scout from the New York Knicks. Steve Yoder was his name. He said if Lofton was drafted, it would be very late in the draft. He said Lofton is a specialty player and that type of player is fading away in the NBA. He said he was a great college player, but would probably never make it in the league.
