Highlands Banquet

Featured Replies

Are there still season highlight DVDs available? If yes, how does one obtain a copy?

Call Dale or the Athletic Department at Highlands. All of the money from the sales of the highlight tape goes back into the Highlands football program.

Congrats to all the kids that got the awards, but I was particularly glad to see Joe Fitz get the Red Dog Dougherty award. This may sound a bit silly, but to me, its the most prestigious of the awards due to it being given in honor of such a great man. And while we had a bunch, a whole bunch, of very good players (which is why I'm somewhat hesitant to single out Joe) on a very, very good football team, Joe was, in my opinion, the straw that stirred the drink on Defense. Its really a shame he did not get more post season recognition. He certainly deserved it. I watched the highlight film (codenamed Dr. Zhivago) last night, and it again struck me just how dang good of a football player he was. Very nice young man coming from a very nice family. Thanks Joe and thank you to every senior for your time, effort, committment and dedication to the Birds football program. The Tradition does indeed live on.

I couldnt have said that better myself. This kid was an unbelievable key figure to this team this year with very little recognition. Very few and I mean few mistakes commited by this Senior. And yes what a fitting award recipient. Good luck to Joe in the Navy, they are getting a great person.

Just watched the highlight film.

1) Yes it's long.

2) It rivals some college highlight films I've seen.

3) Fitz is all over the place. I love the 3 tackles on a goal line stand against Trotwood.

4) Ball, Stine, Hemp, Dempsey, Simons, Collinsworth, Bathiany, Crothers (sp?), Head, Crawford and a host of others had some mammoth hits.

5) People that say HHS wins state titles because of their out of district kids don't have a clue.

I just witnessed a boatload of seniors grow up in the FTJFL right before my very eyes. It may be a long time before we see a team this good AND deep...

Anyone have the contact info they could PM me to get one of these DVDs?? I would love to have one!!

I can vouch for the fact that at least every kid highlighted above is from a multi-generation Ft. Thomas family. And those are just the ones I know for sure. :thumb:

I'm thinking about it as well.

Contact the school and ask for Carolyn Smith (ADs office). She will either have them in the office or will be able to tell you where to get one. It is a two disk set and it sell for $30.

Thanks much! 30 bucks what a bargain for the highlights this year!! LOL.

Hell, a Playstation game is only $40 and you spend half the amount of time playing it...

You shouldn't get blasted as its just your opinion. Which may be wrong, but nonetheless your entitled to your opinion. Dale uses the banquet as a love fest for all the players particularly the seniors. I won't deny that it was a very long day and there are ways to make it shorter, but at the end of the day, if a mistake or error is going to be made, at least the motivation for such mistake or error is to honor and give thanks to a group of very dedicated young men (which I have to admit, I had to keep reminding myself at the 6 hr mark and beyond). :thumb:

Your post was more than fair. And I agree with all of it.

Each senior on a perfect team deserves some mention. All of them were part of something special, and I didn't mean to imply they didn't deserve the credit due for all their hard work.

I think I understand how hard Dale and his staff works to get seasons like this, and everyone involved deserves credit. It was a great group of seniors, who earned all the kudos that were given. I know there are a great group of underclassmen who will try to continue that success.

Dale and his staff are as good as I've ever seen, especially during the off season when it comes to building better atheletes. I have nothing but respect for Highlands football.

My only complaint would be taking six plus hours to give a banquet. Use the 60 minutes mentality just a little bit. Even if it's just a very little bit. :thumb:

Great point BF. You can highlight Head also. His brother was a senior on last year's team, his uncle Jim was on my state championship team, I think his Dad played for a while, his Mom is a Bathiany and you know those roots.

Speaking of off season, do you think 3 hrs. of weights and running every M-W-F is a lot of time. This is what these same senior's went thru for the last 4 yrs. I know of a few jrs. to be that spend another hr or so after the team's done this year.

Henry, the avatar looks familiar. What side of the family is he from. I've heard Ln. tell people he's got a trophy wife so it must be from his side.

That's LN's twin that lives on the farm. You don't see or hear much from him, he's alittle off. Likes to keep to himself. Loves the Woodford though.:D

Looks like he had some of that sour apple pucker!!!
