Morgan County is probably Elliott County's biggest rival over the past 20 years.

 

Just having some fun with the Elliott fans, I have a great deal of respect for those kids and how hard they have worked to get to this point. :thumb:

In basketball for Garrard County, it used to be Mercer County. After the district change a couple years ago, Lincoln County is becoming the big rival for Garrard.

 

In football for Garrard County, Lincoln County is a big rival, but Wayne County and Casey County are probably a bit more of a rival because they are always district games.

Paris/Bourbon County for sure.

Cov Cath vs Highlands is the most intense rivalry in the state

 

Right on. I'm not a CovCath or Highlands guy but this is the biggest rivalry in the state of KY. No doubt. Doesn't even matter what sport. These two schools do not like each other at all. Hate is a very much used word.

For years Hazard's biggest game was against PCC, but in recent years JBS has turned into quite a rivalry in basketball.

It is true that in the last few years Powell County and Lee County have had their share of on the court (add off) incidents. But, Powell County and Estill County have the biggest rivalry. Border rivals for years, now in the same district. Similar size schools that just seem to take great pride in beating each other in any sport at any time.

Some of the best ones I've seen:

Montgomery - Clark (watch out for flying bananas and bird seed in this one!)

Scott Co. - Lex. Cath (genuine hatred. last year Lex. Cath moved the Scott Co. student section 2 times!)

Scott Co. - Madison Central (when Marquis Estill was at Madison Central this was the best rivalry game anywhere. the regional final a couple of years ago added fuel to the fire)

Cov. Cath - Highlands (traditional powers in the 9th have a genuine dislike on the gridiron and the hardwood)

Perry Central - Hazard (Ben Bowling, Olinger, John Berry Bentley just to name a few players in this back-yard brawl)

 

Most of the "city games" in Lexington are pretty good rivalry games. The students come out in full force and get wild.

Since the 10th and 16th have been covered. I will just copy those answers. :lol:

 

I was amazed when I went to a Boyd/Ashland game a couple years ago in the middle of the season. Boyd was struggling and I figured it would be just another ho hum game. Both teams played like they were in Morehead with a trip to Rupp on the line.

 

Course anyone from the area has known that for years, but just amazing to see and that's what a true rivalry is all about.

 

I think that once Darius leaves and Mason Co comes back to earth a little bit in the next year and the other 10th region teams continue to rebuild and get stronger, we will see some great 10th region matchups as well.

 

I almost forgot, Elliott's biggest rival is the NBA because apparently no high school team can match their ultimate power.

NKYBoy is all over this one.

For holy cross i would say Holmes just because thier so close together.. some of the kids grow up playing eachother in the parks. But CCH is not far behind. Very intense district battles happen every year.

 

I think if you took a vote of the HC faithful and asked simply "if you could only beat one...." the majority would say CCH.

Hands down. this game always takes on it's own identity. I bleed blue but often root for the orange and black as well. Especially like this game when played at the Panther Den. Always a fan pleaser!
