January 26, 200818 yr Cocaine by Eric Clapton, UGHHH!Can't stand it. I agree, but the original version by J.J. Cale is a lot better.. I also like J.J.'s originals of After Midnight and Call Me The Breeze better than Clapton's or Skynyrds covers.......

January 27, 200818 yr Actually our Praise Band does Amazing Grace to the music of the Eagles' Peaceful Easy Feeling. It's a perfect match and we even use the chorus of PEF: And I've Got a Peaceful Easy Feeling And I know He Won't let me down, Cause I'm already standing, On Solid Ground. It's always great to play it to a group that has never heard it before and the looks they have during the first verse like: "I know this tune, what is it?" Then to see their faces on the first time we do the chorus. Wow, I like it. That's the kind of religious music I like. People of all ages and backgrounds can better relate to "traditional" hymns if they are "fused" with contemporary music, IMO.:thumb:

January 27, 200818 yr If you're talking about the "standards" of the time, I'm kind of with you. But through back-tracking the influences on some of the contemporary artists I like, I've discovered some wonderful traditional folk and country music from that time period that's freakin' amazing. And we may have had at least part of this conversation in person ... You make a good point and yes you are correct in that I am referring to the "standard" fare of the time period. :thumb: I tend to generalize a bit too much when making a point from time to time.
