Y'know, I get to thinking that a lot, but I picked up the new North Mississippi All-Stars and Drive-By Truckers albums today, and both are fantastic, and very innovative. The problem is that too many people today are unwilling to dig for some good music, instead being content to slog through the crap commercial radio spoon-feeds them.

 

I agree with this Shue the music is out there if you dig for it. I wouldn't want to live in a musical world that there was no U2 either. Wether you like BONO or not the music and lyrics from this band make me want to be a rockstar everytime I hear them. Speaking of The Drive By Truckers the last time I saw them play they gave me that same feeling U2 does. Songs that make me sick anything by The Backstreet Boys gone country RASCAL FLATS!!!

The tune drives me up the wall and the lyrics just don't seem to do much for me. Again I have been involved in liturgical music for about 10 years now, so I am not just some random non-practicing person saying I don't like it. :thumb:

I hear that and AC/DC's awful "Thunderstruck" at seemingly every single HS game I go to, and they make me want to cringe every time.

One of my very favorite bands of all-time is Led Zepplin and yet I don't care for Stairway to Heaven....I also can't stand that song by I think Don Mclean that is always on everybodies top list. Is it American Pie or something?. I can't even remember the name I dislike it so much.

 

That is the worst song of all time, and it lasts so long. But it only lasts about 2 seconds for me because as soon as it starts, I change the channel.

I never cared for "Fear the Reaper" by BOC. Although, I don't mind listening to it when watching the SNL skit with Will Ferrell playing the cowbell.

 

Don't care for 99% of the songs written prior to the mid 50's, blues music being the exception. Imagine the horror of growing up in the 20's or 30's and having to listen to all that awful stuff.

 

I also don't care for any song requiring the involvement of tubas.

If you're talking about the "standards" of the time, I'm kind of with you. But through back-tracking the influences on some of the contemporary artists I like, I've discovered some wonderful traditional folk and country music from that time period that's freakin' amazing. And we may have had at least part of this conversation in person ...
