Of course, that's been my consistent answer for several years now...I've seen nothing to change that opinion. He's a premiere defender and the most skilled offensive player in the league...there are other guys who you can make a case for and I won't argue. However, the thing that separates Kobe to me is that I rate him the best player when the game is on the line, and that's worth a bunch to me...especially in a discussion where you have a lot of good players. Clutch ability is a big deciding factor.

Yes I do, and I watch Steve Nash, a lot, and I know how good the three are. Here are the three's stats.

 

Steve Nash - 16.9 points - 12.1 assists - 3.5 rebounds - 3.6 TO's

Nash shoots around 11 shots a game. He gets his team into games more than any other PG in the NBA.

 

Jason Kidd - 11.4 points - 10.7 assists - 8.4 rebounds - 3.9 TO's

Kidd doesn't average more points, or assists over Nash, but he does average more boards. He also averages more turnover's.

 

Chris Paul - 21.1 points - 10.5 assists - 3.8 rebounds - 2.8 TO's

Paul may get more points and less turnover's than Nash, but Nash gets more assists, and that's what a true point guard does. Paul has some nice stats and he is a very good player, just IMO not better than Nash..

I think he's getting close to being in the top 5, but until he has some playoff success I can't go that high. If you ask me to pick any player in the league to build a franchise around for the next 8 years he's right behind James for me.

 

I still think Wade when healthy is in the top 5, but he may never regain his from from 2 years ago. So to me right now it's a toss up between Kobe and James. Honestly you can't go wrong with either.

There is just to much personal hate for people to realize the truth. A lot of it has to do with people's love for MJ.

Duncan can't won't ever be able to take over a game like Kobe does.

I think what separates Kobe from Duncan is that Duncan needs someone to pass him the ball. Not very often will he take the ball from the wing and break someone down off the dribble to the hole.

A couple of notes. First of all I have seen a few lists that don't have Duncan in the top 3, which to me is crazy. The argument of someone having to get him the ball doesn't take away from what he does with the ball and on the defensive end of the court.

 

For the point gaurd debate Jason Kidd is one of my all-time favorites, however his shooting has declined and I believe Nash and Paul are currently better. Nash is a very underrated shooter and when one poster called him a joke of an MVP I have to question their knowledge of what he really does on the court. Steve Nash controls the game on the offensive end, you can certainly argue that his defense is suspect and that may hurt his MVP candidacy, but to call him a joke of an MVP is not a very smart statement.

 

I hate Kobe, however he is the real deal and the performance against the Nuggets the other night was awesome. He really controlled the game with his passing.
