Best Player in the NBA

Featured Replies

Incidently, Kobe has won a dunk contest and has made millions in shoe contracts from both Adidas and Nike. This was an absurd comment, though. It has NOTHING to do with who is the best player in the NBA today.

I dont know if you could that anymore dead on. :thumb:

I dont remember MJ getting upset and asking for a trade at any time.

I also dont think there is any doubt that MJ's fadeaway is better than Kobe. Where is Kobe's shoe line? His dunk titles? Oh, thats right, he's too good to be in the dunk contest.

He did get Doug Collins fired, though.

They have each made thier share of mistakes in life.

I don't want to hijack a thread, so this is my last reply on the topic. Kobe would win a ring with any of Mike's teams. Mike never took a team to a finals without Scottie Pippen, so we know that you need a team to get there. Let's not pretend these Lakers are nearly as talented as any of Jordan's championship teams. Michael NEVER did it alone and Kobe is learning that he can not either.

Simply put, there is not a skill that Mike possessed that surpassed what Kobe can do. Kobe is a better perimeter shooter than Mike. If all else is equal, Kobe is better. I would even argue Kobe as a better defender than Mike. Just consider who Mike guarded in his day and who Kobe guards today. Who deals with more talent, offensively, night in and night out? I would say Kobe.

It is the ultimate opinion question and I respect yours. We can agree to disagree on this one. :thumb:

Just curious as to your answer, do you think you could compile a team of today's players that could beat the original Dream Team?

Why...are you trying to insinuate that MJ played against Magic Johnson every night?

Just think about how wing play has evolved and the overall talent and athleticism of today's wing players versus guys from MJ's era. If you honestly think MJ played against better talent, then we can agree to disagree.

If it is so laughable name me one thing MJ does better than Kobe.

I love Kobe, but Michael was better.

How easily we forget...or allow our hero worship of his Airness to cloud our judgement.

Mike was consistently called a selfish player and a ballhog early in his career. He was criticized for not getting teammates involved regularly until Scottie came in and acted as the point-forward and started sharing the ball.

Has anyone seen some of the interviews Michael's teammates have done since his retirement? He has been criticized by Scottie Pippen and BJ Armstrong for not always being the best teammate...not always working to get guys involved.

Some of the posts have been so subjective. Remember when Mike was taking his place in the league and guys would argue "He's not better than Doctor J!" or "Elgin Baylor was much better!" Remember how silly it sounded to you that a guy would even question Mike's place amongst the best? Some of the arguements made remind me of that. Mike is from our era and he had commercials and movies and mythology, so he must be the best. Forget his gambling and his personal issues that led to his divorce, but criticize Kobe for his Colorado incident.

First, let's keep the arguement to BASKETBALL related issues and seriouly point to a skill that MJ had that Kobe doesn't. If "winning" is the best you can do, then save it! Kobe has 3 rings. He has proven he can win with a great team around him just like MJ did. They BOTH struggled without good teamates around them. They both carried subpar teams to the playoffs almost single handedly.

Kobe has the outside game-Kobe does it on defense without the help of a Scottie Pippen to relieve him. Just point to a concrete skill that MJ did better.

Kobe has a lot of aspects of MJ's game that are very good. I would hesitate to say that any of them are better than MJ's other than his outside shot. I cant say that Kobe's fadeaway or D are better than MJ's as has been suggested. MJ was amazing at getting to the basket and avoiding the contact or finishing with contact. Kobe has shown he can avoid the contact and finish, but definitely not take the contact and finish like MJ. So there is one thing. Again, I cannot say that any aspect of Kobe's game is better other than his game from beyond the 3 point line.

Nice battle today by the 2 best players on the planet. Lakers with Bynum dominate the Cavs.

Kobe led all players with 6 assists...

Kobe led all players with 6 assists...

And Rebounds with 12, but none of that matters because they lost.

100% Correct...

And is Kwame Brown just not good or what?
