I have to respectfully disagree with your thoughts about not having parents and players on the committee. I think they should be on the committee or at least interviewed by the committee before the search begins and their input garnered. How many times have we read on here that the success of a program is based heavily on how hard the kids work and how committed they are; is based on parents being involved in the program and is based on the community supporting the program. Yet you seem to be saying those very people should not be on the committee choosing the coach? Frankly, I'm not sure what beneficial insight a bunch of school personnel is bringing to the table. Me, if I was the principal tasked with making the choice, I'd have an interviewing committee comprised of some people in the community that I know are influential people (people who can get others in the community to support the coach with dollars, volunteering and showing up at the games); of a representative from each of the junior, soph and frosh football players; and the AD. This committee would interview the candidates and provide me the input; but I'd make the call.

You also have to understand that in many places, parents don't take the time to do the things that they do at Highlands, nor do they care about the long term success of the program. Can you imagine that Parent A at some schools that might possibly lobby for Coach A because his offense throws the ball (and parent A's son happens to be a QB). Meanwhile, Parent B wants Coach B because he runs the ball all the time (and parent B's son is a RB). See what I'm getting at? Conflict of interest.......

Im sure he might of talked to the principal because they know each other from Dayton. Nobody for sure knows what is in his head but Lickert. In a few years he will turn Holmes around so im sure he will not go anywhere.

Scott has won 19 games in ten years. What has been the problem? and what needs to be corrected? How would the people of Scott high sell to a perspective coach, why he should come to Scott High.

He did not inquire about the position, at least for himself. He talked with the principal, as stated below. However, it was not about him and the head coaching position at Scott.

Applying and interviewing for a job is ALWAYS a good thing. It's a good way to research the school, program and support. Sometimes you find out the grass is or isn't greener on the other side. It also gets your name out in the AD, Principal circles which is another good thing.

 

With that said, unless Scott's offering six figures (they'd have a lot more applicants to interview if they did so) Coach Lickert has not, will not and has zero plans to apply, interview or inquire about the Scott job for himself.

I can definitely let it go. I've got enough to worry about in my beloved Panthers getting things turned around. I understand your point and took no offense to your letting it go comment.
