Do you think I am knowledgeable about football???

Nope. :D

Look, all I said above was that in some cases if you haven't played the game and you question an athlete that has, they may doubt your knowledge. Look at all these UK fans who are real quick to offer their opinion on what should be done with the program. I guarantee many of them have never played the game before, and that is why it is easy to dismiss their comments.

I obviously struck a chord with you guys that cover sports, and thats why I said you don't necessarily have to play to know the game, just that it helps. I learned a ton from my time playing ball in school, but I also learned a lot off the field watching games. It works both ways, and I didn't mean to suggest that it doesn't.

Now back to Morakinyo...

Nope. :D

I's on like Donkey Kong this weekend... :fight:

Never said it had to be big time, just that if you have never been out there before it's hard to take you as serious as someone that has played the game for a while.

John Clayton? Chris Mortenson? Bob Costas? Chris Fowler? I'm sure they weren't on any rosters.

Mike Pratt is terrible. Emmitt Smith makes English teachers cringe across the nation. How good was Michael Irvin.

The play the game vs. not playing the game not only applies to broadcasting but to coaching as well. How good a coach was Bob Gibson? Mike Tice? Jim Essian?

I'm still trying to figure out what the point of this thread was other than to try to put down UK's WALK-ONS. Which, I have no problem with, just say that's what your doing in the first place.

I can't get the thirty or so seconds back that I wasted reading this thread. :irked:

Nope. :D

I think that most fans of any sport has played that before sometime in their lifes or they wouldnt be interested at all.

I know a guy that walked on at Duke, and got very little playing time, but he sure could school me.

Should've quit reading when you realized it and POSTED then!!!!!:D

I saw Williams play in an All-Star game in April. I will say he is further along than either Woo or Shagari when they were Freshmen. I don't know if Billy G. would have recruited him or not. However, obviously, he is not as far along as Billy G. would like.

Perhaps, but that doesn't change the fact that it is completely silly for someone to say, "They're better than you" when some average joe criticizes a college or pro player, as though the player in question is being compared to average joes rather than his peers. That's just a lame way for athletes to try and shield themselves from criticism, often very deserved criticism.

It ranks right up there with athletes using the "you don't know; you didn't play the game" excuse, completely discounting someone's ability to observe and learn about the game and comment on what happened.

Hey--let's leave Average Joe out of this one.......I know I suck at basketball......:mad::mad::lol::D

I disagree on Pratt. I really like him

Also, whos views on college basketball do most people take seriously? I would think its Jay Bilas. Also I love Clark Kellogg. Then when looking at football guys like Phil Simms, Troy Aikman, and Dan Marino do a great job.

For the record, you couldnt build a good intramural team around Dusty Mills, Scherbenske, and Dwight Perry.

:laugh::laugh:

He's in Pikeville I believe.

In the NBDL last I heard. I want to say at Ft. Wayne, the Pacers NBDL team.
