It's just a pet peeve of mine when people say a college athlete sucks. He obviously has some sort of talent or he wouldn't be on the team. Every team has them, what's so different about UK's team?

It's not like when someone says a college player sucks they're comparing said player to their own abilities; it's always that said player sucks compared to other college players. To say, "they're better than you" is incredibly lame and missing the overall obvious point.

What's incredibly lame is making a thread on the internet just to talk trash about some walk-ons. Earlier when someone asked his point, he said the point is they suck. So what, none of the players above will ever be counted on to contribute at UK, so what's the big deal? It's not like they any of them, besides Williams or Carter, is actually on a full ride. There are these kinds of players at every major university.

You have a lot more credibility if you have played the game and know what it's like than if you have just sat in the stands and watched.

And I object in the strongest possible terms to this hogwash, because it completely discounts the decades I have spent observing and learning about the game. And there are plenty of players who don't know jack. Emmitt Smith, for example, embarrasses himself several times a week with his profound lack of knowledge about the game he played.

I'm not saying you have to play to be able to know the game, but it sure does help a lot. For every Emmitt Smith, you have a Jay Bilas and a Kirk Herbstreit who are the absolute best at what they do. Not saying you have to be a stud at the game, but you definitely have an advantage if you've played and know what it's like out there on the field/court.
