I will vote Scroggins, because they won the state. But another guy that has done a great job is Mark Peach at Anderson County.

Beatty and Ty for co-coaches of year. Yes, Beatty had some talent, but cm'on how many teams 3peat not once, but twice in the same decade? Despite the talent he did have, he also had some holes to fill and went agaisnt conventional wisdom and found a way to get his studs on both sides of the ball without them wearing down at crunch time.

IMO Dale, Central had the Birds down and the Birds constructed the ALL-TIME come back with 3-unanswered scores in the last 6-minutes. Who else was 15-0 wire-to-wire? Just the Birds!

My vote will go to the coach of Lone Oak. Regardless of the results in the championship, it was an amazing turn around. I also see the arguement for each of the other coaches listed. Beatty would get my second place vote. Great job to all coaches around the state. It was an exciting year and I am counting down the days til next year.

I think MARK DIXON should be named Coach of the Year in Class A. Nice 13-1record Mark at Hazard High. Hopefully you will get a state championship next season.

I agree that Coach Rash of Beechwood went through alot this year and would love to see him get it however, realistically it should go to Coach Mueller of Highlands. JD

The following two coaches will not make the radar screen throughout the state, but should receive Honorable Mention for Coach of the Year:

 

Mike Sammons (Greenup County):

 

Turned a 1-6 team into Playoff District Champions in 4A District 8 and a 5-8 record. Finished the season 4-2 with the two losses coming to top ranked Mason County in 3A and Harrison County in 4A. Both losses were by a point, Mason County (34-33 in OT) by failing the 2-point conversion and a gutsy performance on the road at Harrison County in the Regional Finals, 31-30.

 

Lee Evans (Boyd County):

 

Turned an 0-6 team into the Regular Season District Champions in 4A District 8 and a 5-7 record. Finished the season 5-1 with the only loss coming in the District Finals against Greenup County. Coach Evans showed tremendous class following the last second loss to Greenup County, 27-26. The game apparently was over with a Boyd County victory when the clock showed 0:00; however, the ball had been spiked by Greenup County with half of a second left leaving one more play. Coach Evans indicated afterwards that he did see time remaining following that play.

 

I see Lee Evans in the poll, but no listing for Mike Sammons.

 

No love for Greenup County...again...hmmmmm.

If I could,I would nominate Dennis Ledford at Franklin County.It is his first year as a head coach and he had the Flyers playing some good football.I think he and his staff got the players to overachieve.After losing a state runner up for Mr. football most expected a down year for FC, but they had quite a nice season!Hopefully he is around for a while(he is only 29 yrs. old I think).:thumb:

I think Hillard Howard (LCC) should possibly be on that list. He took a third year program to the third round of the playoffs and went 11-2.
