Congrats Birds!!!!! All players and coaches have accomplished an amazing season. To all of you seniors, enjoy this to the fullest and good luck to all of you in whatever your future holds for you. I have known most of you since you first started playing in the Jr. Football league, each and every one of you have always been very respectful to your elders and show dignity in everything you do. I just wish the best for all of you in your journey of life.

I would also like to say congrats to the players and coaches of Bowling Green for a great season. Keep up the hard work and the state title will come to you.

Good luck seniors as you move on. You've accomplished your goal and now you'll have new ones to reach for.

 

Underclassman, relish this win tonight (okay, we'll give you tomorrow too). But then begin to set your focus on what is to come -- another fine season of Highlands football.

Congrats Birds. Just a solid, all around win. I won't single any one out as I don't want to leave any one out. Boys, you all played well. All that hard work paid off. Sometimes it doesn't, but this year it did. Very good coaching job by Highlands also. Thank coaches and (their wives) for all of your time.

 

Congrats BG. My heart actually went out to you guys. I know how absolutely disappointed you must feel. Some say the pain will pass. It will take a while. Just know in your hearts that you gave it your all and that is all than anyone could ask of you. You are truly champions yourselves.

Wow! What a game by the Birds. There can not be anyone in the state that doubts that this team is by far the class of Kentucky 5A. The defense was dominating and the offense unstoppable both through the air and on the ground. Yes I did say through the air! When a pass was needed, Cecil and his band of receivers stepped up and made it happen. The pass to O'Brien to end the half was the beginning of the end and the Birds never looked back.

 

I hope to see some BG posters give props to the Birds defensive unit for containing their D1 prospect tight end and wide receiver! There was much talk on an earlier thread about weather the Birds DBs were up to the task. Also hope to see everyone give credit to the Birds passing game!

Highlands was all business. No one player was overwhemingly a factor in beating BG, a true team effort. The whole is always greater than the sum parts.

 

Congatulations to a very special team and to the community at large. Going to the state championships always reaffirms how blessed I was to have been a part of that tradition and just how special of a community it is.

 

Same time next year, hold the rain.

Purples, you all did wonderful and you are Champions!!!! You all have nothing to hang your head about! Great job guys!!!

I really enjoyed listening to Bowling Green call on WBGN. I think the announcers were Ralph Thompson and Roy Beard, and they did an excellent job calling the game.

The Play-by-Play Man was Scott Thompson. He and Roy do a great job on our games. That is what I was listening to when I posted the game action on the Game Updates thread. I'm well acquainted with Scott...first class all the way. I narrowly missed playing at BGHS with Roy, but graduated with his little brother Doug. I consider Roy a big brother of mine too. Thanx for the props for our crew, colonel-fan!:thumb:

 

Super job Birds! Congratulations on your 11th? undefeated season and 17th state championship. Congratulations also to BG on a huge season and getting to their third straight championship game. Not too many teams have done that.

 

Thanx, 75. Only three teams have been to the Championship Game each of the last three years, BGHS, Newport Central Catholic, and Trinity. I'm proud of the guys, win or lose!

A very classy thing you did here, leatherneck! On behalf of Purple Nation, I thank you for knowing just what to say. I agree...the guys are and will always be champions to me! The 'Birds simply killed us on time of posession and third down conversions, proving the addage that the best defense is a good offense! In turn, the fresh defense kept Trent Steelman from getting into a rhythm and threw a blanket on D.L. Moore. Ryan Wallace and Steelman came through on the scoring drive. However, Highlands had third and short all night while the Purples faced third and long more than I care to remember...! An excellent job by the 'Birds tonight...they truly earned the title.

I will still celebrate the Purples and the accomplishments of this senior class! They wound up their careers with a record of 50-7 and three state runners-up. They obliterated numerous school records, especially with the passing game. They helped Coach Kevin Wallace become the winningest head football coach in BGHS's long and proud history. They served Alma Mater and this community with distinction and pride. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving us great memories and for enriching our proud history on the gridiron. And I'm pleased to report that the Purples will have a good nucleus of players coming back next season. I can't wait for 2008 to get here!:thumb:

Way to Birds, congrats on bringing it home. The "team" effort is amazing, never have seen a more determined team. To the underclassmen, keep the drive alive. To the seniors, what way to go out, beautiful!! To the coaches and staff, thanks for all you do and will do.
