We are loaded with guards but short in the post. Luke was there last weekend cheering for Gover, so we asked him to play this weekend and see how it works out.

Oh ok, well he should do well - I read in the local paper that he did good at the state tournament - set some kind of scoring record maybe? Don't hold me to that - but it was something like that. I thought you might be talking about Carl Lewis Cummins - he is an awesome guard for Lincoln. I had heard that Lincoln was entering their 8th grade team in the 14U tourney this weekend but I don't see them on the list. Lincoln has a very promising group of 7th graders (class of 2013) and also 6th graders, hopefully they will continue their success into high school! Good luck to all this weekend!
April 22, 200818 yr NKY Huskies are pretty good but I dont have any updated info for you. I know in the past they have had some big athletic kids like Zeke Pike and Jake True. Not sure if they are still part of that team. These are two football type players with physiques. I think most of the HUskies are from Turkefoot/Edgewood. Maybe someone can update me on this team.

South Laurel's 8th grade, played them in the YBOA, at Dixie Heights High School and they had a very good player named Pike. May not be the same player. I think the Lightning team is Louisville Trinity's 8th grade team coached by Rob Saxton.

Pike will be going to Dixie next year and his Dad is the former Buffalo Bill Mark Pike who had a great career as a special teams player. I did see him play for the Huskies 2 yrs ago out at Sports of all sorts. NKY Hornets have been shaken up a little with the long time coach I think moving on and his son going with him. The team I believe has some solid players in Bo Hoge (Merril's son), Griffin Urlage a very good shooter and Drew McDonald who is a beast down low. I also believe they picked up Jake Whitford a Ft. Thomas 3sport athlete who is smooth and has a lot of moxy. I havent seen them play but I know they have the 3 Ft. Thomas boys in Hoge,Urlage and Whitford. Are you all playing them in a tournament this weekend?

April 23, 200818 yr NKY Hornets have been shaken up a little with the long time coach I think moving on and his son going with him. If you are referring to Shafer, who I believe has been their long time coach, he is still coaching the team.
April 23, 200818 yr Scott County's Freshman should steam roll D2 this weekend at 14U state, many think they should be playing D1. Has anyone seen them play? I am one of the many that think they should be playing D1. You are basically taking 3 successful middle school programs (Georgetown, Scott County and Royal Spring were 3 of the Final Four in the Bluegrass Conference tournament this year) and putting them together on this team and adding Manning (I know Ivey has played with them, but I hear he is going with The Ville to the King James this weekend). That could be a scary group. The Ville going to the King James this weekend brings up another issue. I read on another message board that the 14U Ville was not playing in state because they had already earned a bid to nationals based upon last year's 4th place finish. But, I think they are misinterpretating the rules and I hope it doesn't bite them in the end. The rule (shown below) says a team must still play in the district qualifier to be eligible for automatic bid. Teams may receive an automatic entry into the 2008 Division I or II National Championship based upon the following: a. Teams receiving automatic bids into the 2008 AAU National Championship must participate in the 2008 District tournaments. Also, the seeded bid from KY will go to the winner of this weekend's tournament, not a specific club. The KY winner gets the No. 7 overall seed, which means a No. 1 seed in a pool. That could be huge because it gets a team away from the big boys in pool play. I am sure AAU will still give The Ville a bid, but they definitely will not be the No. 7 seed.
