May 30, 200818 yr did the 6 grade tarheels beat the thunder without brandon hatton Yep .... The Thunder didn't have all their players either, but we make no excuses. We didn't play that well, but the Tarheels shot the ball very well and pulled it out in the end. Give the credit to the Tarheels. The funny part is the Thunder beat J Smoove (last year's national runner up at that age group) by 13 and beat Baylor Bluechips (supposedly one of the top 5 this year) by 20 this weekend but lost to the Tarheels. The Thunder travels to Indianapolis this weekend to participate in the Team Tempo National Prep. OBC, Cincinnati Knights, Team Tempo, Ft. Wayne SAC Knights and Indy Elite Jazz are among the teams expected to be there. The Thunder has upgraded in the post in the past couple of weeks (although the new post player wasn't there last weekend), so it will be interesting to see how they compete inside. They haven't had an issue all year with guard play.
May 31, 200818 yr Here is some facts for you TD. The Tarheels is an excellent Outside shooting team with or without Hatton. Kreyenhagen, McCormick and Snider can fill it up from the outside. The Thunder shot the ball poorly all weekend probably because they used the smaller ball last weekend. Rumor has it there were enough bricks to build a new foundation at the Cunningham center.:laugh: Thunder was in control all the way till end of 4th qtr when the coaching staff disciplined a couple players who never saw the floor the rest of the game. That was including the end of the 4th qtr and overtime. That was when the tarheels hit a three in the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. And hit two more threes in overtime as the only scoring in ot. I applaud the coaches for disciplining the kids. I think a lesson was learned even if it cost them the L.
June 7, 200818 yr Keep us posted on the Indy tournament Rainman/HoopDr. The Thunder struggled in Indianapolis with a 1-4 record playing with a depleted roster. The first 2 games, the Thunder simply wasn't ready to play. They were supposed to play OBC in the first game of the day, but OBC didn't show up, so the scheduled had to be adjusted. They met IN state champ Indiana Elite in the first game and got beat 60-34 in probably their worst effort of the year, although it would have taken their best to compete with Indiana Elite. The Thunder made a run early second half to cut it to 9 but could get no closer. Next up was the Indy Panthers and the Thunder again struggled, losing 66-57 in a game that should have won. G'town then beat the Steelheads from Indy by 8 with a late run. On Sunday, the Thunder lost 42-37 to the Cincy Knights and 60-53 to Indy Team Tempo. Against Tempo, Quin Richardson put on a show early with 14 first quarter, finishing with 30, but the shorthanded Thunder was overtaken in the last couple of minutes by deadeye 3-point shooting of Team Tempo. Landen Young and Taylor Gover were unable to make the trip, and Dylan Portwood only played one game (against Indiana Elite) -- he planned to play 2 Saturday, travel back to G'town for brother's grad party then travel back for Sunday's game. Car troubles on the way back to G'town on Saturday didn't allow him to make it back to Indy. Mason Monroe also missed the final game against Tempo to get back to watch former Pendleton County player Nathan Jones pitch against the Legends. Tyson Williams, a new addition to the Thunder from McCreary County, acquitted himself nicely in the paint combined with Luke Hill to hold down the fort with Portwood absent. Williams had 17 points in the one win and was around double figures in the other games, except the final game where he battled foul trouble.

Colonels Richmond KY Stars River City Hurricanes Total teams so far in D1 is 99 and D2 is 66. I am sure there will be a few more additions and some deletions. Where is the NKY Wolfpack? He said that hadn't played since the state tourney and that he had alot of baseball kids but that some of them may go with other teams as add ons.

But, the coach told me the same thing, so I really didn't expect them to go. It's a shame, but I certainly understand. BTW ..... Nate McGovney would be a nice add on.

We have 9 already and a pretty good rotation, hard to add one and get floor time for them all. I hoped that the Wolfpack would play as well. FYI, they extended the deadline to enter thru today, so it's not too late!!!

June 21, 200818 yr HoopDr we miss the Pendleton boys up here in the summer league in Fort Thomas. There have been some pretty heated games so far. Good luck to all the KY teams at Nationals. I will be following on the website and hopefully you all will be near a PC or laptop to update us.

I will shoot you my cell and you can keep me posted with live results so I can post. I better give props where I should, Gary Devoto runs the summer league at St.Catherine Gymnasium in Fort Thomas. Its always a lot of fun, good refereeing (not much called and the way it should be in summer ball) and great concessions. The amount of teams is down a little in the 8th grade division but still very competetive.
