Those coaches for the Lakers are a joke. They shouldnt be coaching kids. We played em last year at BCI and they were going crazy in our game when we came from 15 down and almost tied it. Then I sat and watched them play the Tar Heels after our game and it was out of control. Fans sitting behind their bench were even worse. What is it with these teams from Cincinnati?

 

My buddy's kid played this weekend against the Cincinnati KNights 4th graders and it was the same way in the stands. Parents were arguing with the opposing team's parents, etc. When you really sit down and realize its a Youth basketball game it really puts it into perspective and watching folks act like this is really sad.

Once again, welcome to AAU basketball. I know this isn't your first county fair, it's a generalization. Worst I ever witnessed was a team out of Washington,DC we played at Nationals last season. Let's suffice to say Big Mamma (that's what their kids called her) was upset. FWIW, I find that the women are worse. I've watched several being escorted out, including Big Mamma.

Both coaches should have been tossed, not just the Lakers coach. The Wolfpack coach was as abusive to the refs as the Lakers coach. If the ref's dont have enough guts to make the tough calls in these games, they shouldn't be there. Dave at BCI is going to have to learn this, if he is going to keep the BCI afloat in NKY.

I've actually ref'd games where the NKY Wildcats 3rd grade coach was more "abusive" than what I saw at that game.

 

The game looked like typical bantering between refs and coaches. I saw the ref make the obligatory last time I'm going to listen to that and it seemed to stop. I spoke to Fangman (one of the refs) after the game and he said "the other referee is horrible and no one will work with him". If a ref feels this way, how should the coaches feel?

 

Dave should get control of his refs and their attitudes. They are the ones that wiil sink the BCI. The teams and coaches pay to be there. They are Dave's customers. The refs are employees/sub contractors of a product/service being provided. They should take every precaution to get rid of the negative (2 or 3) bad apple refs that are there. Dave should concentrating on enhancing the service provided to the team/coach. His customer is more important than his subcontractors.

In the Lakers/Wolfpack game the ref blew his whistle, asked both coaches to step onto the floor to speak with him. Both coaches turned their back on the ref and walked away. You have to do something at that time.

That was at halftime and the Wolfpack coach did go onto the floor but the head coach of the Lakers didn't so the Wolfpack coach turned his head and went to his team - It was halftime. The ref was Fangman - they eventually talked before the start of the 3rd Quarter. I disagree. A ref should not try to take halftime away from a coach!

Fangman's comment in itself is a problem. You never make negative comments about your partner. The officials have to support each other and work as a team. Fangman's comment would make that impossible. IMO, Fangman is not very good either so he definitely shouldn't be talking about others.

A lot of Dave's officials are not licensed or trained. When he took over BCI assignments, he thought he would be able to use the better officials (most of those work at the other SOAS facility) but none of them would work for him. Because of that, he has to use whoever he can get including some from Ohio. Maybe that's why the officiating is terrible in the BCI tournaments. IMO, if the BCI is going to survive, someone else should be assigning officials. Someone who has a relationship with the better licensed officials and can get them to work the games.

How about call the game? If the coaches arent going to respect the referee then there isnt any reason to have a game. JMO

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! That's a classic that he would comment on someones abilities as a ref!

I heard the 6th grade Tar Heels participated in a big Tournament down in Louisville this pat weekend against teams from Alabama, Tennessee, etc. They won a very tough first game on a half court buzzer beater by Brandon Hatton and then rolled through the rest of the tournament.

From what it sounds like they are going to be tough to beat. Supposedly, Snyder has commited to playing exclusively with the Tarheels. That allows Hatton to play a wing or in a 2 guard set play the off guard, which is his best position. Do you know if there were any other KY teams in the tourney?

The Central Kentucky Warriors have added a few players also... look for these two to battle it out again for the state AAU title... and also no one else to register D1.

You are correct and Snyder from what I hear was the missing link for the Tar Heels. I will find out today when I get to the office if any other teams were there. I work with one of the kids moms. She said Snyder is a knock down shooter as well and just takes over games. Like you said, this frees up Hatton who can just linger out 25 feet from the basket waiting to bury NBA 3's on ya. I dont think I have ever seen a kid at that age shoot he ball so well. I hear all he does everyday is shoot hoops. If no practice, goes to the Boys/Girls club and shoots. This team will definitely be a contender for the D1 state title. Avery is playing very well also and is a very good passer.

According to my sources, there may still be a D1 and D2 tourney for U12. The Legends and Suns have told several people they plan on playing D1. The Legends have played CKY Warriors twice splitting their games. With the draw from Louisville we may very well see a separate tournament.
