I don't think there will be a D1 and DII state. There wasn't last season because there were only 2 teams registered. Tar Heels and Warriors. They made us play together... Somerset and the Legends played in the 3rd place game that probably would have been the DII state finals but it ruined the whole tourney for everyone. They have to have 5 in the DI state to hold it seperately.... i Think they should have 2 like Tennesse does and let the teams that want to play DI one week and then come back in a couple of weeks and have the DII with everyone but the qualifying teams in DI.

I may be speaking out of turn but I believe Gover is a free agent. Somerset may play 7th but I haven't heard anything about it.

That is correct.... your names do not even have to have anything in common. On another note... I heard Somerset was the odds on favorite for the 6th grade state this weekend.

I am all about forming the best teams and trying to compete Nationally so if they do that then all the best to them. I just think its crazy how some kids can still play a year younger.

The problem is AAU is the only competetive basketball out there today. If you dont want to play D1 you dont have to so play D2. These teams mainly consist of good teams from communities or teams that are wanting to compete and get better and dont hang their hats on winning National titles.

 

The overall problems with AAU are countrywide and if the KY teams have to recruit the best of the best to make noise at Nationals then let it be I guess. I just want them to admit when they play 80% of the other AAU teams out there they are clearly at an advantage.

 

What other competetive choice do you have for your kids? Rec League? Give me a break.

Gentlemen, let's keep this thread civil.

And this is where the problems at middle school and high school start. Its not about winning at this level, its about teaching fundamentals and the game.

 

I played AAU, from 4th until 12th grade. It was a different monster then. I also have coached and will start coaching AAU again for our local school. All of our kids are from 1 school and we will do it to play against better competition but there is no need for us to play schools that draw from a 200 mile area........

I did not mean to sound so rude but AAU is supposed to be competitive. Recreation leagues are for recreation where people aren't as serious. My point is that anyone interested in getting better has to be challenged and it is better to lose by 8 than win every game by 20, as long as you are competitive and the kids don't lose complete confidence. It is better to play the best you can find. I took my middle school team to the kba and played agaist 4 excellent teams, 3 of which are AAU teams that can play and the other was Lexington Catholic. I told our kids to compete and not worry if we went 0-3, it would make them better and prepare them for the middle school state. We went 2-2 and our kids are playing better than they have all season. We were 23-1 when we went. I think compitition raises your own level of play.
