While it's definitely a step down, Coach Nutt is still coaching a SEC school, and I don't feel it would take a whole lot to get them to be one of the top teams in the SEC West on a yearly basis. I know you probably won't admit it, but I'm sure he landed a lot better job than you expected him to.

I see Houston Nutt not coaching anywhere in 2008. After all, he can afford to sit out and pick his spot with the 3.5 million coming his way.

There's a lot of football talent in Mississippi and Alabama. He will have a much bigger talent pool. But he will have a lot more competition for that talent also. Still think it's a good move for Nutt and Ole Miss.

I'm reminded by this conversation of all of the folks that said Guy Morriss would turn around Baylor when Mitch "botched" (their word) the contract with him. Umm, how'd that turn out? Me thinks this deal at Ole Miss turns out the same way.

 

With LSU on a roll, Saban at Bama, and Tubbs at Auburn, the West has some mighty big jumps to get over before Ole Miss can even approach respectable again.

Ole Miss still has a pretty impressive history. Recently, Ole Miss Football has struggled, but if you look back into Ole Miss Rebels football history, you will find an impressive portfolio of accomplishments that includes:

 

 

• Three National Championships (1959, 1960 and 1962);
  
• Six SEC titles (1947, 1954, 1955, 1960, 1962, and 1963); and,
  
• One SEC Western Division title (2003).

Ole Miss football teams produced more than 40 First-Team All-Americans and 145 All-SEC selections. More than 200 former Rebels have also played professional football.

Moving fast is one thing but in two days, is another.

 

Besides, Football recruits can sign Feb. 6th - April 1st, '08. Juco transfers in Football, can sign Dec. 19th thru Jan. 15th.

 

I think a few days of research and communication, would be in order.
