I'm a little late to the board but great to see Ole Miss get a good coach. I belive Coach O will go on and be a great recruiter and Defensive Coordinator for someone he just isn't a head coach. I look to see him back at USC by years end. But as far as Houston Nutt goes, he's a great coach he recruited a couple of whiny baby's a couple of years ago and they split everyone up on an otherwise great coach.

Not very they had went through 3 coaches who had loosing records. Nutt is also has 2nd most wins for any Arkansas Coach in ten years.

Thanks for the info. I didn't remember them being any national power before he got there.

I'm a big fan of Houston Nutt from his time at Murray State ... his enthusiasm and ability to generate community support may have saved that program from going in the direction of non-scholarship football, and then he won big to back up the school's faith in him.

 

There was a time that I joked that Nutt could have been the governor of Arkansas, but then ... he had a well-publicized flirtation with Nebraska and looked into maybe another school or two. The natives didn't like the fact that a native son was looking around (and using it as leverage for better financial deals) and it all came to a head with the Springdale players/coach and the rumors about his personal life.

 

Frankly, I think his leaving Arkansas is the best thing for everyone involved. He starts with a clean slate at Ole Miss. Obviously, the Ole Miss thing has been in the works for a couple of days. Nutt had also made inquiries about the Baylor job.

 

And if he goes 75-48 in 10 seasons at Ole Miss ... he may be able to run for governor.

I need to go ahead and do this now before our recruiting suffers, we don't want to see the problem coming back four years from now". I know the sighning dates but its important to get a relationship as soon as possible with these kids. I know from last year how we lost kids due to our coaching change.

No doubt this is a challenge when deciding on a coach. Do you rush in order to help recruiting for this year or do you make sure you get the right coach? I'd say Bama , while maybe losing recruits last year, will come out better for getting the coach they wanted.

I'm not saying the rumors are untrue. I'm calling them such because nothing has ever been officially confirmed or reported.

 

Even if there was an innocent explanation for the text messages, it looked awfully bad and punctured Nutt's "family man" image beyond repair.
