I guess in all reality, it truly is a small, country school versus a school situated in one of the biggest cities in the state. That's just fact.

 

But please, don't be a separtist and call us 'Natives'. We are from the mountains, and we're proud - and people from anywhere outside these mountains are very, very welcome to come visit.

THINK SIX TITLE GAMES ARE TOO MANY? IT COULD BE A LOT WORSE

TRACKING TOWARD 300

Two years ago Newport Central Catholic's Bob Schneider became the first football coach in state history to ring up 300 career wins.

He may have some company in that exclusive club later this fall. Bell County Coach Dudley Hilton needs seven victories, and Belfry's Philip Haywood needs eight to reach 300. Male's Bob Redman has an outside shot. His Bulldogs need 12 wins to get him to that plateau.

As Schneider keeps on keepin' on -- he's starting his 42nd year as head coach -- Hilton has all but resigned himself to never catching the NewCath legend. So Hilton chuckles when he refers to himself as "the winningest public school coach" in the state.

I don't see what the big deal is about that comment? Is he not the winnest public school Coach in the history of Ky? (With a another wonderful Mtn. Coach not far behind in Phillip Haywood)

 

I think sticking to the game and not grinding axes maybe the best for everyone.

I am a northerner and am proud of our moutain heritage. It is what makes Kentucky so unique! Have enjoyed many a vacation to and through the mountains of Kentucky. Believe it or not, the great majority of northern Kentuckians feel the same way as I. Dont' take offense to critics, be proud of our heritage... Now if you want to talk about the Volunteer state...

It is not the Lex. Cath. fans making those comments Leonidas. It is from a fan I'm sure that Bell has beaten along their way to the top this year. All I can say is, "Don't Hate us Cause you aint us". I get so tired of hearing about the field conditions too. Dudley has done evrything in his power the last 2 years to try to get the school board to buy artifical turf. I know some of you think he is a GOD but He has no control over the weather and yes we have a very poor field when we have any rain or bad weather. As has been previously said on here several times I am still glad they play em Friday night.

“They’re a good, solid football team with a whole bunch of seniors,” Hilton said. “They’re a private school and get their pick of everybody in Lexington. We’ve had big private schools here before so that’s not anything new for us.”

 

Their pick of everybody in Lexington? Gee, Henry Clay must be doing amazing stuff with all the scraps they have.

 

Amazing ... the sad part is that some of the natives probably believe it.

I may be wrong but I thought he was only referring to individuals that were born and reared in Bell County. native is not a derogatory remark. It only refers to someones environmental background. I currently live in Fayette County but still consider myself a "native of Letcher County".

Hey Mtn Mafia, glad you recognize that it isn't the Lexington Catholic folks that are trying to fan the flames, I don't think we want to make it harder for ourselves than it already is! Like I posted several comments back, never believe the hype. We will just let the young men from both teams play hard between the lines, one team will win and one team will lose, hands will be shaken after the game and among the many blessings that we have and reflect on this time of year, we can give thanks that we can have time to play a game.

PoppaBear very well said and I for one am glad to hear somone talk with sportmanship and thankfulness on this thread. All the young men that reads this needs to read more of this type hype. I think it is suppose to rain wednesday and thursday. But when you get this far in the game. Both teams have to play in the mud, so really advantage no one. :thumb:

Geographically, the Lexington diocese covers a large part of central, southern and southeastern Kentucky. So, if you are a Catholic student growing up in these areas of the state, and you want to have a Catholic parochial education, then you have but one choice - so yes, there are Catholics who live in Scott, Madison, Jessamine, Bourbon and Clark counties who attend Lexington Catholic High School.

This should be one of the better games in the state this weekend. Bell Co. cannot afford to give up any cheap scores to Lex Cath. and let the pace get faster than they want to play. I look for the Knights to make one more big play than the Bobcats and win by a score of 28-24.

That's been about the best laugh I have had today - maybe I'll make it over to the Bell County side and have one of those famous stuffed taters I've heard about - I might need a little protection though. Do you have my back??

That was not my inference at all. You stated that Lexington Catholic pulls from surrounding counties outside of Fayette County. I explained why Lexington Catholic has students from outside of Fayette County. There are many non-catholics who want a private catholic education, and this is one of the few opportunites in the area to have such. However, that being said, I can also say that of the seniors who play football, about 90% are in fact catholic which is higher than the school as a whole (the school population is about 70% catholic - or at least that was the figure given to me about two years ago, it may have changed since then).

 

And by the way, we are always glad to receive converts! After all, it's not such a huge step, since we're probably both Christian anyways Now on the other hand, it is the Islamists who I would really like to convert! :laugh:
