Football future shock

THINK SIX TITLE GAMES ARE TOO MANY? IT COULD BE A LOT WORSE

By Mike Fields

HERALD-LEADER STAFF WRITER

TRACKING TOWARD 300

Two years ago Newport Central Catholic's Bob Schneider became the first football coach in state history to ring up 300 career wins.

He may have some company in that exclusive club later this fall. Bell County Coach Dudley Hilton needs seven victories, and Belfry's Philip Haywood needs eight to reach 300. Male's Bob Redman has an outside shot. His Bulldogs need 12 wins to get him to that plateau.

As Schneider keeps on keepin' on -- he's starting his 42nd year as head coach -- Hilton has all but resigned himself to never catching the NewCath legend. So Hilton chuckles when he refers to himself as "the winningest public school coach" in the state.

Here is the link, apology accepted, now back to the topic at hand.:flame:

So, then you just simpy just misquoted him! :p He didn't say "Winningest public school coach versus big private school". The article said he chuckled when he made the comment. Obviously, he didn't mean it seriously.

I got ya back Popa Bear. I might even buy ya a cold R.C. and a moon pie to go with it.

I am a northerner and am proud of our moutain heritage. It is what makes Kentucky so unique! Have enjoyed many a vacation to and through the mountains of Kentucky. Believe it or not, the great majority of northern Kentuckians feel the same way as I. Dont' take offense to critics, be proud of our heritage... Now if you want to talk about the Volunteer state...

Thanks. I am very proud of my heritage. However, I graduated from Bell County, but now live in Tennessee and yes.... I am a VOL!! ** Back to topic, fellas!!***

I may be wrong but I thought he was only referring to individuals that were born and reared in Bell County. native is not a derogatory remark. It only refers to someones environmental background. I currently live in Fayette County but still consider myself a "native of Letcher County".

Thanks for the input swamp thang. I thought about that, but I know Westsider truly desires and wishes he were of Mountain heritage as well. :lol:So, I believe his motive is from jealous admiration!!

Thanks Silver. Great Post.

He gets it ...

Sorry, don't want to derail this thread..... Does anyone know the enrollment of Lex. Cath vs. Bell's enrollment? I was just wandering how many LC would dress, and if conditioning would be a factor.

Trust me you live in a cave if you think that they don't pull from Madison Co. to Scott and all surrounding.
No one denies that, but to say LexCath has "the pick of everybody in Lexington" is fanning the flames a bit.

In the interest of honesty and full disclosure ... hardly. I'm plenty happy right where I am, although I wouldn't mind being able to see this game.

Wow, it cracks me up when people get on to Coach Hilton for the stuff he says. Does LexCath not pull in kids from all over Lexington because of their good coaches, great facilities, and other benefits? I am not saying I blame anyone, but I would guarantee you that there are several players on the LexCath football team that are there mainly because of football. And if so that is their business. Coach Hilton was just stating the obvious.

Also, I truly do not understand why any Rockastle fans are on here saying negative stuff about Coach Hilton and Bell County, except for the reason of being beat twice by Bell this year. You guys shouldn't by too much into it. If I remember right about all the Bell County fans even took up for Larkey earlier this year when his comments were criticized on BGP by a lot of people after the Bell County game. Including myself.

I agree LMB - By the way (not to get off track), what did Larkey say after the 1st Bell game?

When Highlands played Lex Cath in Lexington they dressed nearly 100 players. Not sure if they were all varsity or if the Frosh were included. We also had the opportunity to play Lex Cath's JV squad. If the JV team is indicative of Lex Cath's 2nd string... I would have to say their is a moderate drop in talent behind the starting footballers.

LC has about 830 students who attend the school and about 400 are males. Lex Cath will dress in the neighborhood of about 100 players give or take.
