I think most folks will like the new location (at least the Highlands folks). I'm sure the refs will like the new location. Agree Boom?

I really have to say that I am disgusted about the fact that ADULTS cannot come to terms on something that could become a historical rivalry if NCC/Highlands could play. I applaud NCC for the recent success but, how good are they really compared to a Highlands, Trinity, Male, X? Why not see if you can upset the apple cart a little and beat some upper level teams like the Birds? I am all for playing more NKY teams if they would schedule us. Here's the issue, if you don't want to play because you got blown out, then get better. Its no one's fault that you lost by that much except your own. If you want to not get pummeled, why not start an off-season program like Highlands and try to dethrone them as the KINGS of NKY. Just think, Highlands only has around 400 boys which would make them 3A, so all that hogwash about not being able to play bigger schools and fair can just go away. What's the fun in knowing you would win every game every year? Play up, get better, and stop avoiding scheduling other NKY schools. Please, lets renew the old rivalries. Would love to see Campbell Co back on schedule, and NCC. Don't care if any of the others come back. Maybe Cooper will play us.

Highlands fans get mad when someone talks about someone else being good. Here's a news flash, yes, Highlands is good, and you guys have a great program and tradition, and you love to tell people about it. Take BGP for example, if there is a thread on here that talks about a team having a good year, there will be quality conversation, then you'll see a post saying, "But What about the 'Birds?" This may come as a shock to people outside of Ft. Thomas, but people outside of Ft. Thomas don't want to hear about Highlands High School.

 

The reason you guys have a tough time scheduling is not that you win games, but the way you win. I, personally, am a Dixie Fan, and I can probably count on 2 hands the number of times I've seen Dixie and Highlands play where the game is out of reach, Dixie starts to pull starters, and then wham.... Dale throws in the old reverse pass for an 80 yard TD, to make the margin of victory 41, instead of 34. If that makes Dale feel better about himself, then so be it.

 

I will give Highlands credit. They have a great, great program. Their history speaks for its self, and it is remarkable that they continue to reload year in and year out. And some of the negative thoughts that people have against Highlands does come from jealously, because the goal of every kid in the state is to play for a state title, and Highlands makes that the rule, versus the exception year in and year out. But the real hatred towards Highlands is more about the way they win. It is one thing to beat your opponent, and a completely different one to demoralize them. This is the reason Highlands get to enjoy those long roadtrips, while the rest of NKY fans are home before 11.

Honestly, you sound like someone that has never recovered from a butt whipping. I remember my son's senior year, the Birds getting clobbered by X, somehow we've managed to move on. I suggest you try to do the same. Take a deep breath and let it go, it'll do your soul a lot of good. :thumb:

Everything you said is exactly right except for the not being a true Highlands fan. I bleed Blue and White. I agree whole-heartedly about some past calls that the coach has made and questionable situations. I didn't play for this man and things were much different when I was there. We were led by fear and intimidation. We couldn't even unsnap our chinstraps until we got home and were in the locker room from a visitor game.

 

I know that what went on when we played NewCath and Scotty went down and our then coach said something that was very inappropriate and hurtful about getting his body off the field. I was standing right behind him when he said it. It was awful. I know Scott and his wife and they are great people. I hated that things happened like that. Dale is a different, very compassionate man. I don't always agree with what he does, but he is human.

 

The other reason that we find ourselves going onto other people's threads and talk about Highlands is we get bored. Sorry for infringing on YOUR page, but I paid my 15 bucks this year too. I take advantage of the opportunity to talk on as many threads as I choose. The one thing that makes this website so popular is our passion for sport, pride in our school, support of our kids, and love of the game.

 

As far as running the score up, I will say it again only to sound like a broken record:

 

1. Highlands has games that get out of hand in the first quarter. What should they do, stop trying? Take their starters out. This is the playoffs and the starters need as much time and reps in there as possible.

2. When Highlands gets up and is in 2nd half, you will see some younger kids get into the game. That is a fact. Ask the JV kids how much time they get tonight against Scott. I bet they play the entire 2nd half.

3. When those 2nd, 3rd, 4th(frosh) team kids get into the game, yes they may pass the ball and yes they may score, but who are you to tell a kid that has splinters in his pants from riding the bench all year and finally gets an opportunity to get into a game that he should just take it easy and don't bother trying his hardest.

4. The last thing, if you don't want to have the score ran up on you, then stop us. This is the playoffs, not playnice. If you don't like getting beat, then win.

So I am sorry that you feel that way, however, it does not go unnoticed. I agree and disagree.

One thing for all of you that want to make Highlands schedule for them.

 

Would you want Highlands locked into a game with Beechwood or Campbell County or NCC and then have them turn down games at PBS or Nippert against Elder, Moeller, Colerain, or some nationally-ranked teams? Would you expect the other NKY teams to just step aside if that was the case? Heck that's partially how the schedule came about now. You can't blame Highlands for taking advantage of the opportunites of playing teams not from NKY in college or pro stadiums. Would you really rather Highlands play Beechwood home and home or Colerain in PBS and Elder?

 

I don't see anything wrong with Highlands schedule now. It allows them the flexibility to play a Trotwood or play in PBS. And they can still play some pretty good teams from around the state as well as a couple of quality NKY teams.

But it takes two to make a game. If Highlands wants the flexibility to schedule "enhanced" games and that is beneficial for their program, then they probably are not that interested in some of the NKY teams. And likewise those NKY teams probably are not interested in Highlands.

 

If I were Highlands I would be hoping the phone would ring with an invitation to play games in PBS or at Nippert or in the Herbie Classic or in the Skyline classic for the future years. I wouldn't be trying to line up Boone Co right now.

Seems you write better than you read. I made a point of not pointing fingers, so to speak. And in graph three basically called out the 6A teams for not looking to play the Birds this year with more flexibility available.

I see your point, believe me I do. But I believe the point behind this thread was why wouldn't a team in NKY want to schedule Highlands. It's one thing to schedule a team you think may beat you, but it is another to schedule a team that will embarrass you.

 

And I understand the argument of "running your offense" when you are ahead, but that is quite difference from trick plays, which occurs quite frequently.
