In my opinion, JC has played much better this year. Take the JC turnovers out and this would have been a very different game. Belfry made JC pay for thier mistakes. JC regrouped and played hard in the 4th quarter. Belfry is an outstanding football team and should hang up another State Title. Very good football game. Both schools should be complemented for playing each other. More big time Eastern Kentucky schools should have the backbone to play Belfry and JC in the regular season. I would like to see Bell County line up with these two teams. This game could be the start of the biggest rivalry to be played in the hills for a long time.

 

I agree...somewhat. JC came to win and they knew they had to play ball to do that. And they played hard. Yes some nights are better than others. And yes they are definetely both outstanding football teams! Belfry had a few mistakes too though. I'm not pointing fingers. The best of the best from Every school make mistakes. But if we're pointing out Centrals mistakes...Belfry had a few....a costly holding call when very close to a TD, Belfry had a fumble which was recovered by Central, Belfry recovered a JC fumble but it went back to Central on turn overs, just to name a few things....it goes back to ifs, ands, and buts. It just kind of sounded like you were saying Belfry played a perfect mistake free game and that if Central had have done that also, they could have beat us. Neither team was without mistakes last night. And if thats not what you meant I aplogize!!

Dials is the tight end.

 

I was talking about Dials of SC, the poster was pretty muchtalkign about hwo Dials gained more yards than grimm on one carry against belfry, but I was pointing out hwo belfry shut Adam Dials down as well.

Theres 11 seniors but if I'm counting right 6 of those start...maybe 7....with Sutherland already being out for the season. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please. Dont want to take away from anyone.

OT Jimbo Stanley (Quite possibly the most underrated lineman in the state)

HB Phillip Hickman (Hickman starts but doesn't play evry much at HB in the grand scheme of things and with Belfry's depth)

TE Adam Bowens (will be missed)

SE Ryan Preston (Once again, Belfry rotates alot fo SE's and more times than not run out of a double tight set)

*Stanley, Bowens, and May will be the biggest losses. Dotson has established himself as a top quality replacement at FB and Belfry's depth at HB will help offset losing May. Cory Coleman plays half the game at TE in double tight sets, but a second TE will be a question mark. Shawn Dotson should step in nicely at SE (or Timmy Lovern if they want to get him more touches).

 

Defense:

Its interesting to me that there are not many Breathitt County posters around. Especially with a 10-0 record and the playoffs starting!

For what it's worth, I just watched Breathitt County on tape delay from their game last night against SV. The Bobcats have a very nice team deserving of their high ranking that is definately capable of beating Belfry if they play.

In addtion to being a great defensive player Dials is one of the most sure handed tight ends in the state. Anyone who would trash a great player from any team shows they know nothing about football.

I asked if he was the one who dropped two nicely thrown passes last night. How is that trashing?

 

Did I make something up that didn't happen? He's a nice player, and I hope he goes D-I. But I didn't see anything D-I from anyone on the field last night for either team. What I saw was two well-coached, hard-nosed football teams going at it who happen to have more than a few solid high school football players.

 

All of this D-I talk is getting out of hand, and I'll admit I've been guilty of letting it fly more than I should, too. But nowadays anytime a kid is an exceptional high school football player people go around talking loosely about how this kid and that kid are D-I material. The truth of the matter is that getting a D-I scholarship is a rare thing, and speculation about a kid's chances of getting a D-I scholarship should be kept to a minimum.

I wouldn't get to hung up on comparing JC/Central/HHS scores. IMHO, and with no disrespect intended toward LC, but I don't think HHS played the way they're capable of playing. I don't think it was Central taking HHS out of their game as much as it was HHS taking themselves out of playing their game.

 

With that said, when would Belfry and Louisville Central meet in the playoffs? Finals? That should be one heck of a game.

 

I dont think that you read all of my post. A poster was implying that JC was a "pretender" because a team they were defeated by(Woodford Co.) was defeated 28-14 by Meade Co. I was simply implying that determining a teams strengths and weaknesses by comparing scores is useless. Thus, I gave the JC/Central/HHS scores scenario. I definately do not feel that JC is 28 points better than Highlands, nor do I feel Belfry is 63 points better than Lou. Central.

From what I've seen his height could be an issue. I'm going to guess and say approximately 6 feet.

I'm pretty sure we had over 50 yards rushing. Our best back had more yards in one play than yours had for the entire game. And at no time did coach Hager and Matney reach an agreement to play. If Matney is telling you they did then who will you trust someone being investigated by the KHSAA or a coach with a spotless record.

As for the quality of losses SC lost to Belfry and Bell Co. JC lost to Belfry and Woddford Co. I'm sure Woodford is just as good as Bell. Please......... Don't make this about SC because it has nothing to do with them or because I am from SC it has to do with JC being over-hyped and a good Eastern Kentucky team. NOTHING MORE!!!!!!!!!!!

I for one get so tired of people hiding behind a screen name and tossing around the overrated or overhyped tag when some one gets defeated by a better team. How can a loss to a great team justify another as being "over hyped". It just goes to show you how much you know and I'll tell you this I don't care where you're from if you going to come on here and make the statement that our boys are overhyped I'm going to call you out especially if your a fan of a school that won't play us in the regular season. Your team won't play us in varsity nor junior varsity and the only reason they played us in freshman this year is because thay thought they had a easy win after defeating JC's freshman team twice last season as 8th graders. Let me ask you this do you think our freshman team is "overhyped" also?

 

Your kidding yourself if you think that they didn't agree to play. Trust me pal there's probably no one on this site that would no more than me on this issue because I was there when the whole conversation took place and I was there when your coach called back and told us that "someone at the board office wouldn't let him play us". Ask Mike Hall your baseball coach if I'm not telling you the truth.

 

That's all I'm going to say to you about this but if you would like to continue the situation your more than welcome to private message me. I've said to much as it is but no KID needs to be labeled as overhyped. Especially when there 8-2 on the year and getting ready to host a home playoff game and just one year removed from the final four in AAA.

As for Elkins, the unofficial word I have gathered is Grade 1 MCL Sprain, which means you probably won't see him playing friday, but should be back if all goes well, by Round 2. If this holds to fruition than that is a relief for all the Pirate fans.
