I'm going to make a few comments based on what previous posters have already said and I'm trying to make them in order of importance but bear with me.

Major hit to Belfry tonight. QB Andrew Elkins went out with a knee injury. Don't know how serious.

 

Could be very harmful to the Pirates title drive.

 

I'd go as far as to say he (Elkins) is the single most important factor in the effort to gaining another state title, and I feel very strongly about that.

Some random stats and thoughts.

 

Belfry was the better team and they wore the Eagles out on the line of scrimmage.

 

Pirates had 328 total yards and 302 of it was on the ground.

 

Johson Central had 246 yards, and only 40 of it was on the ground.

 

Of the 206 passing yards, I think about 150 came on 3 plays and 75 of it was a TD where Belfry's corner fell down in coverage.

 

At the end of the 3rd Qtr, JC had a total of 51 yards, and about 40 of that was on one pass play at the end of the 1st half.

 

Central simply couldn't run the ball on Belfry and had to go to the pass. I'm glad they did, even though they had some real success doing it, because that is what this Belfry defense needed. Facing a passing team was just what the Dr ordered and it gave Belfry something to really work on in the coming weeks with Somerset and possibly Breathitt Co on the horizon.

 

If I only had one post to comment about this game, defense and O-Line play is what I would stress.

This was the worst game JC has played in the Matney era.

 

3 turnovers didnt help the cause any either.

 

Usually teams play their worst games against better teams.:sssh:

I think that Belfry deserves the credit for that.

I hope 4+.... these two have the potential to create a very competitive and beneficial rivalry.

 

I hope it is a continuous rivlary between two of the top teams in our part of the state.

Would like to see it at around game 7...so injured or banged up players can heel for playoffs.

Special teams will get you beat in the playoffs. I can't see special teams getting any better for them at this point.....

First of all I would love to know where you get your information! Yes we got outplayed tonite and hats off to Belfry. No excuses here but it is very HARD to win AT Belfry. I would love to know who said we would win by five touchdowns? I was just hoping to stay close and play a solid game which we did not. I guess we got lucky on all those passes. What did JK have? Over 200 yards? I guess everyone on the defense fell down espicially on that 73 yard touchdown where Ian jumped over the db and outran the defense. :laugh: Good luck to rest of you well classed Belfry fans!! Met some great people tonite that really love football and do not trash other teams.

I knew we could win this one Without the mistakes of the last fews weeks, and we still had a couple tonight but it all worked out.

 

I'm hearing that they dont think?? Andrews injury is too serious, but they will be getting it checked out tomorrow.

I think Johnson Central was exposed as simply a pretender tonight. The team that had beaten them earlier, Woodford County was spanked tonight by Meade County 28-7. Johnson Central is a decent team in their class, no more, no less with no shot at a title.

 

Nice you decide to drop in on this thread. I find it funny that when JC blasted Lou. Central a couple weeks back, a team that you said would steam roll JC, you never decided to post. But as soon as JC is defeated by a good team, you show up calling JC a pretender. JC may not be the team that they were last year, but they are a good 5A team. If you want to go by comparing scores to determine a teams strengths, let me through these two scenarios at ya:

 

Johnson Central had Lou. Central down 35 points before subbing early in the 4th quarter. Highlands defeated Lou. Central by 7 points on a late comeback. Is JC 28 points better than Highlands?

Comparing scores is meaningless. Yes JC ran into a better team tonight, no one is arguing that, but your constant down grading of the JC program is getting alittle old.

How do you get I am making excuses. I said that Belfry forced JC out of their element causing a bad game. More of a compliment towards the Pirate D than an excuse.

Okay, I'll go back to my statement where I said that Johnson Central is only a pretender in class 5A--I'll stick with that.

What an AMAZING game... My Pirates were fired up tonight.. Dustin was HOT.. I think JC underestimated Belfry. I think that JC was way OVERRATED.. Everyone was saying they were gonna beat us by 5 TDs. Whatever. NOONE will beat us by 5 TDS. Everyone talked about how GREAT JC was... I wasn't really impressed tonight... They got lucky in the 4th and got a couple passes in.. Most of JC's completions in the 1st half was to us... LOL It should have been 28-0.... Bring on the playoffs...
