Setting new goals Weight lifting

Featured Replies

I am hoping to take the bench from 330 to 360 by the begining of the new year and I want 225 for at lest 28. My best is still 25.

Anyone else?

I've been hitting the gym real hard for bout 2 weeks, trying to get back in shape.

Right now I'm 5'11, 200 lbs with body fat around 18%. I'm repping 195 3x12 on bench. Bi's are currenty 17". I hope to get weight to about 195, but the body fat to 12% and rep 225 3x12. and get the bi's to about 18" by February first.

You are a lot stronger than me. I've squatted 330 before, but I could never dream of getting that much on bench. I lift to get toned not to be a monster because its just not possible. But I do weigh 165 so I guess I get some slack.

Ha I'm pretty sure you just said you want to look like me lol.

Although I'm trying to drop my BF% down to around 7-8%, last time they didn't the measurements over the summer it was at 11%.

I think this may be the first year I actually put forth a new years resolution, and it's gonna be to not drink beer during the week any. That really kills me, and make me miss the gym frequently.

I am not saying this to be smart, but beyond athletics, what is the point of trying to bench an Oldsmobile?

I encourage everyone to work out their most important muscle before trying to look like Schwartzanegger... that being their heart.

I doi not grow but I have been able to get stronger. I do it for me and no one else. Others have different hobbies which they go all out for and I always encourage them. I never understand why somebody always has to question why anyone does something that is good for them. If I were to question someone on why they do what they do I would more than likely question that person who drinks and smokes all the time.

Again, it is not meant as an attack and I am not questioning why you are lifting. More of a health comment. That is great you have lofty goals for your bench, I wish I could bench that much; it is just that the more weight you throw on the bar, the higher the risk of injury.

It's called a hobby. I lift weights because I like it. I like the feeling of "the pump" after a good workout. It's fun. There's nothing better than coming home exhausted after a good workout at the gym.

I don't know about nothing better, but it is a great great feeling.

Currently doing 3 sets of 10 reps @ 225 on bench. One rep max is 295... For some reason when 300 goes on the bar I can't push it... Maybe by Christmas.

I need to lose about 75 lbs. My new workout includes running 3 days per week and lifting 3 days per week. I'm always eating on the road so I'm trying to do granola bars and subway. I've got a long way to go.

We, my brother and I lifted today even though I had been sick the last two days and I worked ealry this morning.

We did four sets with 225.

SET 1 225 FOR 28 A NEW HIGH

SET 2 FOR 25

SET 3 FOR 21

SET 4 20

This was my best set of four since we started doing this.

Next semester I'm definitely scheduling around lifting, both work and school.

I shocked myself today.

280 for 8

290 for 6

300 for 4

310 for 3

320 for 2

330 for 1

I figured you could do that with how many reps of 225 you can get. If you ever maxed out you would probably be in around the 375 range if not close to it.

Benching is overrated, and probably the exercise with the most risk for shoulder injury. I quit doing it after getting 315 and not being able to sleep on my left shoulder for two months.

Besides that reason, you can a better overall workout doing dumbells.

What you don't have is an answer for the question "How much do you bench?", which is the first thing people say when they know you lift regularly. Lately I've enjoyed telling them 120 lbs. But I don't even bother mentioning that I'm talking about dumbells.:D
