October 16, 200718 yr :thumb: My two cents: *I for one think that OSU is overrated, but by the way the polls work out, they are ranked #1 for now...Which means absolutely nothing at this point. *OSU's defense is good, better than last years (Which was overrated). But they haven't really been tested by an offensive powerhouse. *OSU's offense is shaky at best. They have a descent running game, they have great special teams, and they don't beat themselves. Their passing game is coming a long, but not at the rate I would have expected it to. Thier receivers are very good, Boeckman sometimes just underthrows it or makes poor decisions. They do keep the defense honest. *Tressel is one of the best. What will happen from here on out.....Who knows, but odds are they will loose at least one game and still play in a BCS bowl. :thumb: Pretty much sums up the way I feel.

We'll see how it turns out when OSU actually plays someone. They've looked pretty good so far, but we better see how the last 5 weeks of the season go before we get too excited.

That is basically what I and other Ohio State fans have said on here. I agree that the toughest part of their schedule is coming up the rest of the way. My point that I was trying to make to all of the Buckeye doubters / bashers / haters or whatever was that Right Now tOSU has beaten the people/teams that they were supposed to. A lot of the complaints on here were from fans of teams that also has had much weaker teams on their early season schedule and they have NOT BEATEN them, OSU has in their games. Some of these fans imo have nothing to complain about when it comes to OSU being ranked #1 right now. The Buckeyes have went out and taken care of business like they should have where others failed to do that. But...........I guess somehow that is Ohio State's fault as well . :thumb:
October 17, 200718 yr NOTE: this is Farva's brother talking, so don't get mad at him. My observations: -For the past few years, the differences in conference skill level has, IMO, nealry everything to do with where the conferences in general get their recruits. Being a little steroetypical, but absolutely right, the best speed players come from the states of Florida, Louisiana, California, Georgia, and Texas. SEC gets most players from Fla, Ga, and Louisiana, so they are very good and fast. Pac10 teams get most players from California, which makes them good and fast (and arrogant - the i'm from california and i'm that much better than you attitude - which, IMO, has made USC have some of the most talented teams in the past few years have trouble with teams they think they're above - Stanford, Oregon St, UCLA, and countless close games). Big 12 shares the Texas speed, but gets a lot of slower "corn fed boys" from Oklahoma and Nebraska. The Big East and ACC get whats left usually (for the past few years) of the southeastern speed. The Big 10 gets players mostly from Ohio and western Pennsylvania - slower. So the best conferences based on quality of recruits stand as thus - SEC, Pac 10, Big 12, Big East, ACC, Big 10. -This voids nearly all of Ohio states "quality" wins of the past 3 years - except for Texas, who, if you didn't know, got a total of zero, count 'em zero, BCS computer points this week. OSU's D may be great against other northern teams, but when put up against even a "pretty good" southern team, i.e. Florida last year (LSU probly had the most speed and skill last year too), they get embarassed by speed. -If you still want to argue about the Big 10, look at Northwestern, who may be considered a middle of the pack/ lower level Big 10 team - they lost to DUKE, who hadn't beaten anyone in like 3 years, then NW beats Michigan State, who is considered a decent Big 10 team. If you still disagree, the Big 10-play undefeated Michigan team not only gets embarassed by Pac 10 speed in Oregon, but beaten by back-up back-up back-up southern speed from Appy St (from North Carolina - for those who are misled or goegraphically challenged, North Carolina is as far south as Tennessee is). -So OSU may be the best in the Big 10, but once they take a step south or west, which they won't, they most likely will be beaten by anyone considered by southerners or Californians to be "good" P.S. whats the point of tOSU? I mean is there a toOSU (the other Ohio State)? Cause if not, it just increases your image as stuck up arrogant northern people.
October 17, 200718 yr We keep hearing how they are about to play the tough part of their schedule and the highest ranked team is 23rd, doesn't that kinda of prove the point. Even the tough part of the schedule isn't all that tough.

It's just that they don't play quality opponents. thus win every game --- while other teams knock off the big boys--- in which OSU benefits and moves up the polls --- as a result of other good teams wins. Affectionately referred to as the "Disaster in the Desert":cry: 2005 they played No. 2 Texas No. 21 Iowa No. 16 Penn State No. 16 Mich St No. 22 Minnesota No. 25 Northwestern No. 17 Michigan No. 6 Notre Dame Future Non-Con opponents include USC (The one from LA), Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Miami Fla. & Cal. However, I think this years team is much better than last years. The Defense is much more physical and much faster. This team is very similar to the '02 Nat'l Champ team. If you will recall. Everybody said there was NO WAY that OSU could run with Miami. The offense lost a ton of talent off of last season's team, however this bunch is coming around and the early schedule has helped them to develope. Watch out for Ray Small. He will make Bucks Fans forget about Ted Ginn (if healthy). The running game for OSU is more dependable than last years as well. I really like the Sain kid in the backfield.
