This is exactly the kind of team that I feel will give my Devils a fit. Strong passing game with a running threat. I don't think they will stop us from getting our points, but our secondary has proven it cannot stop the big pass play either. Someone posted that it will be won by the team that has the football at the end of the 4th. I tend to agree.

I don't think that is huge surprise. Mason County has been overlooked much of the year. Belfry at #2 and Russell at #5 may be a little surprising. IMO Belfry has to be ranked #1 at this point and #5 is a little low for Russell as well. But I think I kind of like the underdog roll for a change. It does add some incentive.

 

 

Well...Mason has the perfect opportunity to gain a measure of respect.....right on their home turf. Home or away...if they can beat Russell...observers around the state will stand up and take notice. If not....they'll start talking about Basketball season.

Then....they have the opportunity to validate the "respect".

Without a doubt Mason County has one of the finest Coaches to walk the sideline. No disrespect to Mason County but even with homefield advantage which I think is very important, I think Russell will pull this one out. I sure hope they do because I really don't want to drive that AA two times in one year.

I'll have to second that!! Coach Buchanan is not only one heck of a football coach, but a great role model and leader for those players. You don't always find a coach with a 'complete' package, but Coach B is the real deal!:thumb: Before he got to Mason Co., the only thing they had to cheer about was basketball, but he has made football a huge part of that school and community that many around the state now recognize as being a top quality program.

Before the Campbell County debacle, the bye week and then the Bourbon County debacle would have said the Royals roll in this one, but beginning to think this years Royals are a tad to soft for a hit you in the mouth team like the Red Devils. Russell by 10.

The only game where I thought Mason County looked the least bit soft was against Campbell County. One of MC's players blew out a knee on a clip on the first punt of the game, then Campbell came out and outhit and outplayed Mason the entire game. Against Boone County, it wasn't a case of being soft in the second half; more like being tired and having Boone effectively make adjustments in their running game.

 

I think this one comes down to speed vs. power; and whichever team imposes its will and its game plan on the other wins.

I think it's going to be Russell's toughest test, but I think Mason has already been up against better competition. No chance of winning the games either though. {Not taking anything away from Russell.}

Now it might be the most important test for both teams.

If Russell leaves their secondary at home again, I don't think they have a chance. But if they just bring SOME secondary play along with a little more pressure than last week Russell will be fine. If not, Mason Co. stays in their back yard for the playoffs. And the Russell faithful will get a double double.
