Before the Campbell County debacle, the bye week and then the Bourbon County debacle would have said the Royals roll in this one, but beginning to think this years Royals are a tad to soft for a hit you in the mouth team like the Red Devils. Russell by 10.

Being from Eastern KY, I would like to see Russell win, but my gut says Mason by 6.

It wasn't like they were never in position last friday either. There were times they were there but never found the ball. I think the coaching staff may have been a little spoiled the last few years with the kids that were in the secondary. First you had Gross who took away half of the field by himself. Then the last couple of years I don't think there was a better pair of safeties in the state than Clark and Sizemore. This year there is talent but they are relatively unexperienced. This was a good learning experience for that group.

I just checked the poll and get last weeks.

I usually would never vote against Russell in this area due to the superb coaching of Mcglone but I will have to say I believe the Devil's are going to get spanked in this one. Mason is not going to give up this win on their home turf. Russell could very well get a small taste of what they dish out to the surrounding teams. I hope everyone stays healthy. It will definitely be THE GAME Friday night.

I don't think that is huge surprise. Mason County has been overlooked much of the year. Belfry at #2 and Russell at #5 may be a little surprising. IMO Belfry has to be ranked #1 at this point and #5 is a little low for Russell as well. But I think I kind of like the underdog roll for a change. It does add some incentive.

I agree, it is the game this week, and I think it will come down to turnovers. If Russell, as I as expected they did, learned from their game last week, they could cause trouble with the passing offense. Russell's pass defense will be the deciding factor, in my opinion.

Graybeard has hit on two keys to this game. If Mason's O-Line can protect Cox, he may be able to pick on the Russell secondary; underneath or over the top. Mason will run enough to try to keep the Devils honest; and the QB is probably as much of a threat to break one as anyone in the Royals' backfield.

 

Other things to look for - can Mason's front seven match up physically with the Russell offensive line and will their linebackers in particular be able to contain the run; if Russell happens to get behind will they stick to the game plan; if Mason gets behind will they try any trick plays on special teams.

 

Mason's speed vs. Russell's size should make for an entertaining matchup. Who would have thought that a 3A game in the northeast corner of the state would get so much attention?!
