How long is the drive from Russell to Maysville?

 

A bit over an hour give or take.

Should be another great game. Whoever wins I don't think it will be by more than a TD either way. I'm really looking forward to going to Maysville again. Its a good competitive rivalry between these two teams.

 

I would like to see Russell go to cover 2 more when teams spread them out. You don't have Clark, Sizemore, Lewis and Frazier back there to make plays on the ball. You do have some talent in the secondary but they raw and need help. Russell is very good against the run but they shore up against the deep pass.

 

Once again you have hit the nail on the head FBall. Those 4 would not let a defender catch a ball in front of them without defending the attempt. They had confidence in their abilities and each other to do that, which is what I think this group is missing.

 

As far as being Raw, I would hope that by 3 scrimmages and 7 games they would be farther along than they are. I know that by next year when they are all seniors that may change, but as you said fball they need help now.

 

I think size has something to do with it as well. None of our current four are very tall in stature and their footspeed is not like the last 4. The smallest player (Frazier) made up for his size with speed and Lewis though only around 6ft (if that tall) was just very good at not letting players get behind him. Clark and Sizemore had both speed and size.

 

I also agree that a cover-2 might help, but that is just our opinion. But I do have the utmost confidence in Coach Morris and his defensive staff that after watching this past friday's tape that he will make any and all adjustments that he can make with the personnel he has.

 

I do believe though that this Friday's game will be close. I hope that our senior players and captains step up on monday and address the team and restore the confidence that some may have lost after the game, because a win on Friday is MUCH MUCH more important in the scheme of things playoff wise than the tough loss on Friday night.

Two good teams, but I think Mason County is better. With this game at Mason County I predict:

Lewis is nowhere close to 6'. About 5'9' . This years secondary has some size and they are athletic. What they lack is the experiece and the field awareness that last years group had. Clark and Sizmore had great instincts on where to be and how to play the ball. Lewis and Frazier both were seniors and had plenty of varsity experience as well. You could gamble more with that group. This year they are learning on the fly but I do like their potential and their athleticism.

 

I think the world of coach Morris. I think he is one of the best defensive coaches around. Last week was a test. For the players and the coaches. I think they will learn alot from it and make the adjustments that need to be made.

 

I also think the world of coach McGlone. He has become more of a gambler himself. There are always things that you can question but I'd bet my house nobody is as critical of coach McGlone as he is of himself. One of the things I think people underestimate about him is his ability to make adjustments. It is a strength of his I believe. They will not be drastic changes but the man knows his football and how to get players in the right places. I think this team will is just fine.

should be a great game, but I like Mason in this one. But Russell could win it just as easy.

The game is at Mason County.

 

Russell and Mason County were in the same district from 1991-2002. Russell leads the all time series 11-2. The last time they played was the region final in 2002 at Putnam stadium. It was played there because the field at Henry R. Evans was in such bad shape from the 1st two playoff games that year that were played in the rain. Ashland allowed Russell to use the field since Russell was supposed to be at home and the Tomcats were beaten out of the playoffs the previous week.
