Could one of you guys help with some information about the stadium. Is it by the High School and is there lots of seating on the visitors' side? Thanks for the help in advance.

 

If I recall correctly (it was many years ago for a JV game) the field is behind the school and their was plenty of visitor seating. Maybe some of the Mason Co faithful can correct me if need be.

Football field is close to the high school; closer to Straub Elementary School. Get there by 6:30 or so for a decent parking spot. There are four entrances - one from US 68 which runs into the high school; you will go around the high school and basketball gym (kind of hard to miss), bear left around the little bus garage, and go up a little hill to the parking lot.

 

An easier way to get in is from Maple Leaf Road. From the AA Highway, turn RIGHT at the intersection where Lowes is on the left (ablut halfway between the KY 11 intersection and the US 68 intersection - if you see WalMart on the left you've gone too far, but you can still get there via US 68 (prior paragraph). This is Maple Leaf Road; you will see the local Boys and Girls Club on the right shortly after you turn right on Maple Leaf. There are three entrances to the Mason County campus from Maple Leaf - all are left turns. The first turn has a sign for Mason County Middle School. You can turn there but I don't advise it. The second left turn is unmarked, but that's the turn to take. This is the easiest way to get to the football field. If you happen to miss that turn, the next left gets you there, but traffic will be worse because it's right up against the football field and in the tailgate area (see paragraph below).

 

There will be a $5.00 per person tailgate; that usually starts around 6:00 or so. Reluctantly, we will permit Red Devil supporters to spend their money and consume our food and drink if they so desire. Tailgate area is between the practice field and the game field.

 

Visitor's bleacher area is fairly small, but if you arrive early enough, seating shouldn't be a problem. Another option is to bring camp chairs.

Is it a widely held belief that a sloppy field helps a power running team more than a finesse, passing team? After all, receivers know which way they're taking their routes.

 

Weather reports we've heard has rain ending Friday morning. The field is in great shape; but I don't know how much rain it will hold and drain before getting sloppy.

Rain or not I still think its which ever team executes the best and takes care of the ball. Short passes, I think the definite advantage goes to the recievers. The same can also be said for the RBs on a running team. They know which way they are going to cut. The defense doesn't. I really don't think the weather would give either team the advantage.

 

I do know I would rather watch the game without getting soaked though.

That can also work the opposite way as well. On Offense with a throwing team like Mason, the recievers know when they are going to make their cuts and the defense has to react. Imo on a wet field the reciever may have the advantage in that way. Both teams will have certain advantages and it will come down to which one adjust and deals with the conditions better. JMO

 

One thing is for sure, if heavy rains do arrive and this has nothing to do with the game. I wish all the Russell fans a safe trip to and from on that travesty they cll the AA highway. :sssh: :thumb:

- Russell has some issues that needs to be fixed, come November those issues will be gone, but come Friday they will still exist.

- Homefield advantage will play a role in this one, if this game were at Russell I would take the Devils.

-All in all, at this point in time I see this as an even matchup.

I am right in the thick of things in all these regional contests and thoroughly enjoy adding to my BGP wardrobe, The Devils burnt me last week, so I will pick against them in a win-win situation. Now, if Russell loses I get valuable points in the contest, but if they win I get the satisfaction of my second favorite 3A team winning a huge game.
