St. X Ranked #3 in the Country

Featured Replies

I hate to correct you, BirdieCat, but Trinity won the JV game in 2006 by a 38-7 score, so X has won 9 and T has won 4. :sssh:

Was that the game that the JR Stein led the Rocks and Sophmore Duece Finch didn't play in view of his backup role on varsity?

Yes, you are right. There were also St. X. sophomores other than Deuce who did not play in that game.

Ox, I was re-calling from my old and feeble memory. :creepy:

So one out a 13 ain't half bad.

Boy! Is it obvious the Tigers don't have a game this week or what? :irked:

Come on PRP!

Should we start a countdown to game time thread?

Exactly! My concern right now is not with any largely ill informed irrelevant national poll. I am concerned with the health of our team. I hope all heal fully...but if Ben Zoeller doesn't come back full speed or has re-aggravations it could spell December Disappointment. As to the failure to finish naysayers, I agree. It has happened in the recent past and there should be a burning desire to not let it happen again. St.X has the talent to win state and not doing so would be a huge disappointment for this talented group. September 28 is gone, national polls mean absolutely nothing--Focus and Finish!

Of course we all wish Ben a speedy recovery...But if this injury lasts longer than expected this team still can win without Zoeller. Matt is doing a fine job. If any more injuries occur, I am sure #2 could shake the rust off for a couple of weeks.

Thank you for your response to my post. In re-reading it I can see how it could be interpreted as a knock on Brutcher's ability. That was not my intent. No doubt the team can win with Brutcher....and had he been the day 1 starter (not saying he should have been, just that the experience would have been great) this wouldn't be an issue. But I think Brutcher at QB changes a little what X can and should do offensively. I don't think it's a secret that he's not the runner Zoeller is and Zoller is not the passer that he is. It will just be different. Does our O-line pass block as well as they run block? Can our receivers get more consistent so we can throw on first, second and third down if we want to? I also think leadership plays into this. I think Ben established himself as the team leader in the Male game. It's not an easy role to step up and fill. Sometimes the leader needs to motivate his teammates to play harder with words in the huddle. Sometimes these words are not well received coming from a younger backup. Not saying Brutcher can't do it... just that it might take some time.

I am aware of 1938. What year was the other National title?

1959

If I heard correctly, that's supposed to have been one of the best teams ever... possibly blown out of proportion, but at the time I could see it.

I saw that team play, and although I was at a tender age, even then I realized that meteors that bright don't flash by often. They were.

So you're saying if X waxed...hmmmm, Seneca instead of T they'd be #3 in the country anyways?

Sorry, no buy.

By that logic you're then saying that St X Cincinnati should be thankful to Trinity for still being ranked #1 in the country because Trinity lost to them? Talk about not buying....

When Trinity was ranked high in the polls did they have St X to be thankful for? No! They got there by beating whoever was on their schedule. They worked hard and deserved the credit. Now it happens that St X is highly ranked because they beat who was on their schedule. Period.

Ultimately, the rankings mean nothing. It's just something to feel good about. The real ranking will come in December. Until then, good luck to all. I sure hope it's St X, but that's why they play the games....

Once again, Congrats to all the faithful St X fans, players, faculty, & coaching staff!! You deserve it! Now go play one game at a time.

^ I just thought your last remark needs to be emphasized....

December is what matters....

So if we take those numbers and average them out, taking into account the #3 at the beginning of the thread it comes out to about 16.

More or less doing that just for fun. :D

You know... these schools need each other so bad.... isn't it great! I still like my idea that all X and T grads play football at Bellarmine. That team would be a D III force in little or no time. It would be so cool to see Ox say, Go Knights! and PepRock second the motion, then Dio (shown in a pic hugging Rockpride) says he's saving seats for THSrock and Park1221. I'd have noting sarcastic to say... what a wonderful world it would be!

I figure this is as good of a time as any to ask, but grad/dad, do you hate yourself sometimes? It'd be like growing up in the Bronx cheering for the Yankees, then getting drafted by the Redsox.

Everyone has the right to improve their lot in life. Congrats grad/dad.
