September 7, 200719 yr Maybe they did not want to show UK that much and were going with the vanilla defense? :lol: In all seriousness, that was a really poor showing by the defense. I have always contended the difference between the elites of college football to the pack below is having a solid defense. UL has yet to field that level of defense that could separate them from the pack. I do not feel they are as bad as the showed last night, but still will give up points to UK and many others.

September 7, 200719 yr Allen is no Bush and will not be Bush... 34 carries for 275 yds is nice, but i have to see what he does against a top Defense. Bush played agaisnt teams like that also, and obviously never had more yards than Allen did last night...

Poor tackling is a symptom of lack of effort...and there was plenty of that last night. Also, lack of concentration in obviously blown coverages. Right before the half Middle lined up and #17 (I think it was ) was all alone on the sideline, right in front of the UL bench, completely uncovered with the closest UL defender on Floyd Street. My question is, Why didn't the coaches see this and call timeout? Of course the receiver catches the pass and almost scores. Mario Urrutia? ... Boy, he has a lot of negatives to go with his positives..... Why aren't Peanut Whitehead and W. Williams playing more? What is the chemistry like on the team? At the game, an older gentlemen said, "I hope we haven't gotten ourselves another (Coach Ron) Cooper." Me too, although it must be said that the Def. Coordinator has not changed. Next week will , IMO, answer many questions.
September 7, 200719 yr 2003 Miami (Oh) We looked like a John L Smith team out there. The penalties and the lack of defense were disturbing. They better get this straightened out by next week. The penalties really caught my attention...they looked really undisciplined last night with regards to penalties and getting out of position on defense. This should either serve as a wake-up call for U of L, or their defense is really going to struggle...if they don't show up for the UK game next week, I'd start to get concerned if I were a U of L fan. Forget UK...with regards to the Big East, if MTSU can hang 42 on them at Papa John's, imagine what White and Slaton will do... ...the good news is, the offense has been unstoppable to date. If they keep that up, it probably won't matter how bad the D is.

September 7, 200719 yr I know this was a disappointing showing for UL's defense, and I understand the banter. But no matter which school you support, be it UK or UL, that game last night was really good for this week. It made the UK/UL matchup coming up much more interesting and exciting.
