September 7, 200719 yr He said it was "capable" of championship defense, not championship defense. I didn't get to see the game, but I don't think I needed to, to say...UGH! to the defense. Thank GOD we could "out-offense" them. Here's a thought...maybe we just don't want to show our hand yet! Maybe UK will get over confident. RELAX! It's a JOKE! Don't say it RM...please don't say... Vanilla Defense :sssh:
September 7, 200719 yr So, you're saying this was the Vanilla Defense? Ahh...you beat me to it...:thumb: I'll have to update my top ten list...
September 7, 200719 yr Hello... Hello... Hello... Hello... I hear an echo in here. Oh, come one...you knew I'd have to pounce on that one. She set that up like a tee ball. If I didn't know any better...
September 7, 200719 yr So, you're saying this was the Vanilla Defense? No...I'm saying this was NO flavor Defense! At least vanilla would have livened it up a bit.
September 7, 200719 yr Didn't UL have some trouble with MTSU last year in Nashville? I believe they did. I also believe that the MTSU/FAU game was an anomole for MTSU, much as our complete and total meltdown @ South Florida was for us some years ago. No, MTSU isn't Ohio State, but they're no JUCO either.
September 7, 200719 yr No...I'm saying this was NO flavor Defense! At least vanilla would have livened it up a bit. I heard someone had kidnapped Cassidy and in the meantime U of L was using the tandem of Mike Archer and Mike Major as co-defensive coordinators.
September 7, 200719 yr Didn't Howard's team shut out the Blue Raiders? Where was that game played at? FAU beat them 24-17.
September 7, 200719 yr Why are there so many empy seats in Papa John's stadium? Thursday games are not fan friendly especially 2 in a row against a team you are a 42 point favorite and its on TV.
September 7, 200719 yr Couple things about this that stick out to me: While it's absolutely no excuse for how poorly the defense played, it seems clear that at least for the first half, they completely overlooked MTSU and were looking ahead to UK. The statements of "Slaton and White would've gone for 500 yards" are completely ridiculous. Maybe they do when the teams actually play; maybe not. But don't you Cat fans think that maybe, just maybe, the Cards would be a little more focused and keyed up to play WVU than they were MTSU? This game had all the makings of a trap game in that it was sandwiched between the season opener and a big rivalry game. While not excusable, it's not the first time a higher-ranked team has overlooked a lightly-regarded opponent in similar circumstances. But hopefully the Wildcat players are thinking the same thing some of you Cat fans are, and they dismiss the Cards.

Even if Louisville's defense plays like they did against MTSU, they could still be favored against UK because of their offense. The defense is cause for concern from a U of L standpoint when you look at the season as a whole, and certainly to some degree the UK game...but, the key to this game will be how much UK's defense can slow the U of L offense down. They aren't going to shut them down, but they can't let U of L score every time they get the ball until the game is out of reach like they did last year...if our defense can't come up with a few stops, the U of L defense will be a moot point as far as the "rivalry" game goes... It will have to be fixed if U of L wants to achieve its goals this year...but it still may not be enough of problem to cost them the UK game if the Wildcat defense can't come up with something.
