NKY Freshman Football

Featured Replies

I thought we were talking about the Freshman game? Campbell Co. needs to play eighth graders on the frosh team?

He was too big to play Red Devils and I think he is benefitting from playing freshman ball and it allows the 8th graders who play his position to develop. Just my opinion.

Nothing wrong with playing up if he's big enough to handle it and it helps him and the team. It happens in other sports.

Does CC need to play an eighth grader? Did it look like they need to? They have around 50 kids on their team. That kid is just that good, why not let him play with the older kids. Coach Miller does a great job of getting all of them playing time win or lose.

So the summer after his 7th grade year he spends in camps and two a days with the frosh?. I just have not heard of anyone doing this in Football. I know it happens in baseball and basketball but this is new to me in football. Hey, whatever is best for the kid I'm all for.

I heard that Crane may be back as early as this week? (This from some parents in the stands last week) I still think it will be a good game with the edge going to SK.

I am almost positive that I was told from someone that would know that he tore something, but I could be wrong or I could have misheard, either way I hope you're right.

What changes could be made?

The 5A/6A teams number 10 so playing each other once takes up 9 games. Plus their playoffs. Can't see them wanting to change that to play 2A teams.

The 1A schools (except Beechies) are playing Frosh/Soph games and can't see them changing that. At best maybe the 2A straight Frosh teams could play the 1A Frosh/Soph teams but that might not be that benefical for either.

The 2A schools are stuck unless they can find some Ohio schools basically.

What are Gallitan, Grant, and Pendleton doing as far as a Freshman schedules?

One last thing, I think all 4 teams are very close and you match up any of the 4 you will get a really good football game.

Agreed! Looking forward to CC vs Ryle in 2 weeks.

Does anyone know if Holmes still has a freshman team? I have heard they have cancelled 2 weeks straight.

Newport VS Clermont Northeast

If he knows he wont be able to play for the Red Devils due to age/weight, etc then I am sure he was in the mix during summer camps, etc. Im sure there are a few older freshman on the Birds squad who could have been old enough last year to play frosh ball. The Birds simply didnt need anybody to move up and typically dont. But there is always that special player and it looks like CC has one.

Yes they have a team. Last week the game against SK was scheduled for Wednesday and Holmes thought it was Thursday. Two weeks ago there was a conflict for field use with varsity soccer and varsity soccer trumps freshman football. Both games are still trying to be rescheduled, but they are having trouble finding the time.

Thanks for the info.

Quite often big kids run out of room in the NKYFL. Unlike the Fort Thomas Jr. FL and Boone County Pee Wee FL the NKYFL has a weight limit that applies to more than just the backfield. If a kid weighs more than they say he can to play, he either has to go thru a terribly unhealthy sweat out to make weight or play for the frosh or middle school teams. In the past it was quite common for the big boys in Kenton an Campbell Counties to start playing at the high school in 7 or 8th grade or not at all.

Also, as far as I know most freshman teams do not do two a days and the weight lifting / condition in the off season is not near as intense as JV/Varsity IMO. Most programs ease kids into it.

...he may not be older...just a grade lower. I believe this occurs at many schools.

Beechwood actually only has about 16-17 frosh of the 30 or so kids .The rest are 7th and 8th graders .Some of the 8th graders ,including the kicker ,get a fair amount of playing time .

They say they'll get no playing time with the spartans so they come to the high school team to watch and learn the system . :thumb:

7th graders are not allowed to play freshman ball. Nor can an 8th grader compete in Spring ball.

Wrong! Ft Thomas has a weight limit.
