Raceland 23 Ashland 20

Featured Replies

Other than the well deserved congratulations to Raceland, my thoughts on this game are: Raceland is clearly a better team than Ashland at this point of the season. Im always impressed but never surprised by how hard the Raceland kids play throughout the entire game…that was very obvious during the last 1:51 of the 4th quarter. I haven’t seen any stats yet, but I would venture to say the final score was not indicative of how lopsided this game probably was…Raceland turnovers kept Ashland in this match-up.

As for the Tomcats, I really liked how they responded to the challenges of the game. They, too, showed some grit and character when fighting back to tie things up late in the contest. There were a couple of instances of 3rd and long when we were able to keep the chains moving and until that success, I really didn’t how we would handle such situations. The must-have two point conversion showed they could execute under pressure and deliver. I have heard many fans talk about Carter and was delighted to see there may really be some substance to the hype. Our line showed their inexperience, but I look for those guys to come together quickly once they get a few games under their belt.

We all want to win and I sure wish the Cats were 1 – 0 instead of the contrary….but one game does not a season make. Keep working hard guys…good things will happen.

Good luck to the Rams for the rest of the season.

 :thumb: :thumb: There is a "No Soccer" sign up as you enter the town and in the halls of the school, that is grounds for dismissal. :D

Yeah, we need one of those signs too.

I did a little checking with acquaintances in Greenup County and I think you are correct. From time to time through the years, Greenup County has proved to be a fruitful feeder system for Ashland.;)

Before people jump to conclusions about where Carter went to school and when, let me just tell you that there have been extenuating circumstances in this young mans life. His ability to overcome some negative situations should make everyone all the more impressed with his future accomplishments, regardless of what jersey he wears. I truly feel everyone in Eastern KY will be very fortunate to watch this player grow and mature into possibly one of the greatest running back's this area has ever seen, and maybe even one of the best players in the country in the class of 2010.

Now that I've had a little time to reflect on this game I agree with watch Coach Hart said after the game. "It's never as good as you think, and its never as bad as you think." If Ashland is able to play the entire game like they played the 2nd half then that is obviously great for Tomcat fans. With so many new pieces all over the field, no doubt it will take some time for them to gel as a unit. So we shouldnt be too surprised at the sluggish start. Their ability to fight back in the 2nd half showed a lot of heart for a team I thought looked dead. To score 3 TD's to Raceland's 2 is a small victory, and I think this team will average atleast 24-30 points a game this season. I was surprised how good Raceland looked, they looked ready to play from the first snap, and that is why they won and deserved to win.

I've been thinking that Rashard Carter deserves a nickname, and I have found one. There used to be a hockey player name "Rocket Richard" Richard pronounced (Rishard). I cant remember who he played for, because I dont like hockey, but nevertheless I like the name. So from now I dub Rashard Carter - ROCKET RASHARD.

All very good points.:thumb: Raceland did many things right, some wrong. But, Ashland took advantage of those few mistakes. It would have been easy, several times, for Ashland to give up, but they did not, that is a bright spot for the Ashland players and coaches. The Ashland coaches made some very good adjustments in the 4th quarter. Like you said we all want to be 1-0, but you have to take as much from a game as possible, and Ashland can take much from this game.

Not much said about the kid that kicked a game winning field goal. Wow three field goals in the second half.

Seems like I remember a few.:D

Plus special teams, and they were special. Sparks had two touchbacks, 3 FG - including the game winner, return teams did a nice job.

Excellent team game by the Rams and a great showing in the kicking game by Jacob Sparks.

Sparks kicks 3 FG's and a 38yarder with time running out to win the game.

Sparks 80 yards receiving.......Boyles 244 in the air.

As for Raceland, the Sparks kid absolutely impressed the heck out of me. He's a big target, a tough matchup, and seemed to have some nice hands. I would use that roll out pass in the flat or across the middle to him until the defense could stop it. And that's before I saw the leg on him. Kid's a nice player.

Sparks is a very good athlete, not lightning fast, but big and has good hands, and a very good right leg. He is a very good basketball player which gives him good hands and catching ability. And at 6'5", not to many DB's are going to cover him when the pass is over his head. Aaron Petrey gave him much kicking instruction, and Petrey must be as good of a coach as he is a kicker, because Sparks in a very good kicker.

:thumb: Typical Tomcat and Painter class (along with the other Ashland fans on bgp ;) ) Ashland will imo be a team to be reckoned with as the season moves on. The Carter kid is for real and I wish that people would quit worrying where he came from and when and all of that stuff. He is at Ashland now and that is the end of the story.

Post like this and others to me show why there is respect between Ashland and Raceland that others do not understand - the two schools admins, players, coaches and fans all respect one another. We both want to beat the other and we both are friends afterwards. That is imo the way it should be. Great post again painter :thumb: :thumb:
