Raceland 23 Ashland 20

Selling out on Coach Hart and the Tomcats already? Ashland will be fine, it just going to take patience. They did lose 22 seniors so its not going to be great from the get go. Ashland is still a place of Tomcats and not Kitty Cats as your location suggests.:thumb:

Well I have an opinion and this is a place to were I can express my feelings. I am a Ashland fan and I have the right to disagree with how some things are done.

:thumb: Excelent post JC, the Ashland tradition is in no danger, they were beaten by a pretty good football team. Tomcats will be fine and........................."tradition never graduates" ;)

I have played for Ashland, my brothers have played there, my kids go to Ashland, my family volunters their time to the different programs and you can tell a difference in the overall attitude of the players, coaches and fans. They are happy to compete in games or " its a moral victory". If you have 10 moral victories in a season then your record is still 0-10.

My question to you is do you honestly believe that Ashland will finish the year 0-10. Just last year my friend Ashland had the same result with Raceland losing 21-16. What happened? Ashland rolled off 7 straight wins losing to JC 35-7. That same team that was beaten to a pulse just 3 weeks earlier by JC, came back into JC's territory and give them the scare of their lives and nearly pulled out a victory. Now why cant that happen this year, it can. Ashland was beaten by a last second FG this year. Why cant they use this game to propel them through the season? As I said Ashland is Ashland, you lost 22 seniors last year, its not going to be great overnight, but around mid season, it could be. If you think for 1 second that we down here in Johnson County dont look at the Tomcats as a serious threat, then you are mistaken my friend. We take Ashland very seriously because of the tradition and respect that program has earned and demanded. All Im trying to say is dont sell out on Coach Hart and the Tomcats just because of a dissapointing week 1 loss. Last year this loss propelled there season when many outsides, as myself, thought it was doom and gloom for the Tomcats. Last year taught me dont to base a teams overall success on week one, maybe it will teach you something as well.

I would have to say that happy ol' dad makes some valid points and no one can question that, in light of his lengthy support of the program and the school, he has every right to express those points.

Fans of all schools should, without criticism of the kids themselves, objectively view their favorite programs. Not many on BGP do that and PGB fans are sure no exception. While the kids should be off limits, the coaches asked for the jobs, are (we assume) mature adults, and are paid for their services. They should have no immunity from scrutiny.

Merely saying "Ashland is Ashland" may stroke the ego of many but it doesn't have any relevance in this day and age.

You are correct. I just feel that negative opinions and statements serve no purpose. If you feel better now because you expressed your opinion, then fine. I just think there are more constructive ways to get the same point across.

No one is happy with a moral victory. But it is important to keep things in perspective.

I havent missed a game since about 92'. All I am trying to say is that the attitude here in Ashland is very different then it has been these past few years.

The days of Herb Conley, a truly outstanding coach, are gone forever and only memories remain. But, they are good memories for most in maroon and white.

We all love Ashland and hope for nothing but the best for them. I would love to see them in Louisville in December. Some of us just need to stop shinning their shoes and catering to them. They are not the only football team in this area. I'm tired of this what Ashland wants Ashland gets and not in just football. If anything it should be what Raceland wants Raceland gets. They have won the last four of six games played against Ashland. They very well could have beat the Red Devels last year had they played. Lets have Ashland play at Raceland for the next six years. I know the Raceland wins were flukes. Raceland has earned respect. Now give it to them. Bottom line Ashland cannot walk on water even on Fridays.

I certainly could be mistaken, jeep-man...but I would venture to say if you took a straw poll in Raceland today, most of those good folks would vote they got exactly what they wanted last Friday night.

These are kids and they learn as they play, particularly the young ones. It is apparent they were very fast learners in the Friday night game, coming back in the second half. I have every confidence that they will continue to learn as all our teams do. That's what high school football is all about. No team does everything correctly, but they learn and isn't is awesome to watch when a play goes as planned, or even when it doesn't, the kids manage to pull something out. Hopefully they learn to adapt and apply what they learn. That's life and the bigger picture in this whole thing.

WHEW, that was a mouthful. Sorry for the philosophical rambling, I just had a Starbucks moment. Boy that caffeine can clear the head.

Thanks Jeepman. I believe it will be a mute point. I honestly don't see Ashland renewing our contract. I may be wrong, and I hope that I am, but I would say this has been the last year for Raceland/Ashland for a while. I would love to have home/home with Ashland on the next contract, if a contract happens.

I would say you are correct Painter. RamLand is happy. I would like to play Ashland home/home. That is not to say that that is the only way to do it. But, everyone wants home games. I just hope the series continues, one way or another.
