August 22, 200719 yr I say that reading magazines is just as healthy as reading books. Mags like SI and ESPN, and different car magazines, they all use language that older kids use and can learn to understand. No offense but SI / ESPN the Mag/ and car magazines , while fine for casual quick reading, do not do you any good as far as educating yourself. If I remember correctly, you're relatively young so take it from an old(painful to type) guy - READ BOOKS and learn about business/money/history/politics and read a good novel. You will be a better person for it.
August 22, 200719 yr Since my condo fire I have visited the Kenton Co libraries quite a few times since the place I'm staying at has just Insight's Classic package. For those in the know the Classic package stops at TNT, so I have basically no sports to watch late at night. Just recently I've read: Cane Mutiny, Rammer Jammer Yellowhammer, I'm finishing the World is Flat and I'm next on queue for Can I keep my Jersey.
August 22, 200719 yr Books are much better than the movie ( most of the time ). They can take you to places you may never go and lets you do things you may never do.
August 22, 200719 yr I have been reading books on the Amish for the last several years. Along with others.

The best of that bunch is World is Flat. I'd highly recommend it to anyone and everyone to get a better understanding of today's economy and how technology is changing it.
August 22, 200719 yr Reading does take time, but this is how I work it , to get my reading time I make ! myself clean or put clothes away or something of that nature and then I get ! to read for a while. My way of rewarding myself and geting things finished around the house.

I think of myself as a pretty well educated young(21) person. I know the magazines I listed weren't the best examples but those are what magazines I usually read. just never read books. I find them dull and boring. I dunno I guess that's just me!
August 22, 200719 yr I was one of the ones that didnt read a book, although I do read a ton of articles on the web.
August 22, 200719 yr I read five or six books this summer, reading puts me to sleep so its what I do when I want to fall asleep fast.

Additionally even on thse articles that may perchance educate slightly, the details are skimpy and give you a mere superficial understanding (if that) of the subject matter.
August 22, 200719 yr I usually read 3 or 4 at a time . I just finished "Patriot Battles" about the Revolutionary War , and am now reading 1)" Lost Mountain " about strip mining in eastern Kentucky by Erik Reece . 2) " The Most Noble Adventure " about the Marshall Plan by Greg Behrman . 3) " The Civil War a narrative /From Fredericksburg to Meridian by Shelby Foote.
August 22, 200719 yr The cited article above failed to mention that the study was done by (and the group is ran by) former D-Colorado Congresswoman Pat Schroeder... http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew-sheffield/2007/08/21/libs-love-books-or-do-they
August 22, 200719 yr Reading books gives me a headache. I do read a lot online tho, and prolly watch to much tv which would take time away from reading books.
